Box 20804, Lehigh Valley, PA 18002 610-770-6200 Email: [email protected] www.pridelv.org Lehigh \ / Valley Pridefest Dear Friends, Welcome to the 10th Annual Lehigh Valley Pride Festival. We hope you enjoy your time here at the festival and throughout the year in the valley. Please support our sponsors and advertisers. Their generosity helps make the festival possible. Over the last ten years, Pride of the Lehigh Valley has witnessed many advances in rights for gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender people. Here at Pride we have expanded from an annual festival to additional programs that touch the GLBT and larger community. For the first time this year we were a Community Partner with the Mayfair Festival for the Arts. We also work together with community task forces on issues such as domestic violence and spirituality. In addition, we hold fabulous King and Queen Pageants and film festivals for all to enjoy! Many challenges remain. Yet, I believe that we are lucky to be on this journey and that we will look back at our progress in amazement. My Quaker friends have taught me that there is a big difference between being an anti-war activist and a peacemaker. Peacemaking is a risky, ongoing act of faith. It takes a great leap of conviction to believe that our positive efforts will do some good in this world. I believe that our voices will be heard and I am thankful for your effort in accepting the challenges we face. Sincere thanks to all who helped make the festival, parade and other programs a success. We couldn't have done it without you! Yours in the Spirit of Pride, Bren Hoelman President President's Letter 1 Helping you celebrate your PRIDE for 10 years... Pride of the Lehigh Valley Pride of the Lehigh Valley's mission is the advancement of GLBT rights and pride through community outreach, to be achieved through events and activities aimed at: • Raising community awareness and understanding by increasing the positive visibility of GLBT people throughout the Lehigh Valley. • Celebrating the contributions of GLBT persons on art, music, literature, film, religion, education, history, family life sports and community activities. • Promoting community resources available to GLBT people in the Lehigh Valley. • Celebrating the diversity and encouraging unity within the GLBT community. • Creating a positive atmosphere in which people will be encouraged to "come out" so each person may realize their full potential as a GLBT person. Pride of the Lehigh Valley was formed in 1993 by a small group of residents. Inspired while attending a civil rights march in Washington, D.C., they saw the need to provide a much-needed positive and welcoming atmosphere for Lehigh Valley gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender people everywhere. 2 Pride LV Mission Pride of the Lehigh Valley Media Policy In order to ensure the right of privacy to be enjoyed by all that attend any and all Pride of the Lehigh Valley sponsored events and functions, it shall be the policy of the Board of Directions and the Public Relations Committee to work with the media in the following manner: • To send press releases to media representatives within one month of any Pride of the Lehigh Valley sponsored event. • To refer all questions and requests to the Pride of the Lehigh Valley spokesperson as designated by the standard operating procedures or, in lieu thereof, the Board of Directors. • To request that the media refrain from using still cameras of any type of video photography unless they have the written or verbal consent of the intended photographic subjects.
