Welcome
What is it about a rainbow that puts a smile on
our faces? Is it those perfectly blended colours,
miraculously stretching across a dreary sky? Maybe
we’re all secretly hoping we could yet stumble across
a giant pot of gold (well, it might happen, I’m ever-
optimistic). Whatever the reason, nature’s spectrum
inspires happiness and warmth, and as the evenings
draw in ahead of winter, that’s something we could all use a little of!
Th is issue of Pretty Patches is packed with colourful projects and
rainbow makes to cheer up grey days, and they’re as much fun to sew as
they are to behold. Antonie Alexander’s bright stitched softies are perfect for
your little monsters; Jemima Flendt turns colourful scraps into sweet paper-
pieced houses for a playful mini quilt; Judith Hollies works vibrant Alison
Glass prints into a striking modern quilt in her Sunburst Diamonds design;
and – never ones to waste good fabric – we’ve got a great idea for using
smaller cuts and remnants from the same range too, Beth Studley’s perfectly
stitched storage basket, which pairs bright strips with on-trend denim for a
contemporary home make.
We’ve fi nally recovered from all the excitement of the Festival of Quilts
here at Pretty Patches HQ, and have had a wonderful time pulling together
a selection of the winning quilts from the event for you to enjoy. Th e
competition galleries once again showcased the incredible talent that exists
in the quilting community, and the work is nothing short of inspirational.
