Coniker Co-founder with his wife Gwen of the Apostolate for Family Consecration, Consultor of the Pontifical Council for the Family, and Director of the Bloomingdale, Ohio, USA branch of the St. Louis de Montfort Association of Mary, Queen of All Hearts Founded in 1975 ® Resource #323-115, Fourth Edition Dedicated to my beloved wife, Servant of God Gwen Coniker (September 27, 1939–June 15, 2002) Wife, mother of 13, grandmother of 66 and counting, co-foundress of the Apostolate for Family Consecration, Catholic Familyland, and Familyland Television Network. She truly gave her life for family consecration to Jesus, through Mary, in union with St. Joseph, in the spirit of our beloved Holy Father, Pope John Paul II, whom she loved so dearly. Gwen’s cause for beatification was officially opened by Bishop Daniel Conlon on Sept. 9, 2007, after the fifth anniversary of her passing on June 15, 2002. The fifth anniversary of her death was on the movable Feast of the Sacred Heart. The last time the Feast of the Sacred Heart fell on June 15th was the Fatima Year of 1917 — the land where the Conikers lived for two years to learn how to live and spread the Fatima message, which Pope John Paul II gave his life for. It is the only image of our Blessed Mother on the outside of the Basilica and was commissioned personally by Pope John Paul II. This mosaic publicly proclaims Pope John Paul II’s spirituality, which is also depicted on his coat of arms – Totus Tuus Mater Ecclesiae (Totally Yours, Mother of the Church). At night the image is lit up, along with the great dome. While facing St. Peter’s, this picture is on the right side of the second level above the narrow section of the Master of Papal Protocol’s office. One picture says a thousand words. This picture is certainly John Paul’s plea to the world to come to Jesus in the most perfect way, the way He chose to come to us, and that is through His Most Immaculate Mother. v The Apostolate for Family Consecration was founded in 1975 by Jerry and Gwen Coniker. The Conikers were one of twenty couples in the world appointed as mem- bers of the Pope’s Pontifical Council for the Family. Shortly after Gwen’s death on June 15, 2002, Jerry was appointed by Pope John Paul II to be one of six consul- tors for the above council. See Appendix A for more information about the vision and mission outreach min- istries of the Apostolate for Family Consecration, which includes Catholic Familyland, International St. Joseph Media and Training Centers, Lay Evangelization Teams of volunteers, Familyland Television Network on inter- net, Consecration in Truth Catechetics (which unites the family with the parish), FamilyCatechism.com (on-line Interactive Family Catechism), Be Not Afraid Family Hours, Peace of Heart Forums (which provide continuous adult formation), and podcasting. All these outreach ministries utilize the vast video library of over 15,000 programs that feature more than 500 leading authorities of the Faith. Roman Curia Cardinal Francis Arinze has produced over 1800 of these programs over a nineteen year period. We particularly ask you to pray for the Holy Souls of your loved ones and others in Purgatory, since those of us in the Church Militant on earth are the only ones who can help them through our indulgences. The Conikers, along with their children and grandchildren, were invited to be one of the present- ing families during this celebration. No. 457/07 Vatican, 07 May, 2007 Dear Mr. Coniker, Thank you for sending me the Book Preparation for Total Consecration to Jesus through Mary for Families published by the Apostolate for Family Consecration and dedicated to your beloved dear departed wife Gwen Cecelia Coniker. This is indeed an amazing book and will go a long way in helping people to be prepared for Total Consecration according to Saint Louis Marie de Montfort. It is rich in content and well organized so as to prepare the families slowly and progressively to consecrate themselves to Jesus through Mary. I was struck by the fact that the book seeks to regulate the preparation through a detailed 34 days of preparation followed by three days of reparation and consecration and then three days of guidance in how to practically live one’s consecration. Also heartening is the abundant but valued use of the magisterial teachings. While congratulating you and your movement on publishing this book, I also wish to compliment you on the wonderful work you do for sustaining families through a life of Christian Prayer. Assuring you and your family of my prayers and imploring God for eternal rest in His everlasting bliss. With every good wish, Yours sincerely in the Lord, Paul Cardinal Poupard President _______________ Mr. Jerry Coniker, Catholic Familyland, 3375 County Road, 36, Bloomingdale, Ohio 43910-7903, U.S.A. viii Jerome F. Coniker, President Apostolate for Family Consecration Bloomingdale, OH 43910 USA June 24, 2005 Dear Jerry, We just want to thank you for compiling and editing your new book entitled “Preparation for Total Consecration to Jesus through Mary for Families” according to St. Louis De Montfort with meditations by Pope John Paul II. This 33-day preparation resource with the Act of Consecration made on the 34th day is excellent and follows the traditions of St. Louis De Montfort’s Consecration. Pope John Paul II had made De Montfort’s consecration himself and this consecration was reflected in his motto “Totus Tuus”. Your Scripture selections, along with examination of conscience exercises and the different prayers for each day are a beautiful way to systematically present to families your family consecration spirituality and the basic teachings of our faith. I agree that the idea of extending another 6 days onto the program utilizing two presentations of Cardinal Arinze’s on DVD entitled “Living Your Consecration” is an excellent way to reinforce the message in a practical way for family life. I know that Cardinal Luigi Ciappi helped you develop your consecration summary prayer: “All for the Sacred and Eucharistic Heart of Jesus, all through the Sorrowful and Immaculate Heart of Mary, all in union with St. Joseph.” This “All for” prayer is truly a prayer of the total giving of oneself to Jesus through Mary in union with St. Joseph. Cardinal Ciappi’s support of the Family Apostolate and his willingness to be your theological advisor while he was still the papal theologian was a great blessing in your founding years. I am so pleased that you gave a copy of this book to His Holiness Pope John Paul II last November at the Pontifical Council for the Family meeting with him. Also, I am happy to learn that you gave a copy to Cardinal Ratzinger (now Pope Benedict XVI) when you were awarded the privilege of attending his private Mass last November. It was indeed providential that your paths crossed in this way prior to his being elected the new Pontiff of the Roman Catholic Church. May God and His heavenly mother continue to bless your efforts to promote Total Consecration for families throughout the world. Yours in the Hearts of Jesus and Mary, Fr.
