When you finish your set you enter the weight and number of reps, notes are optional. The rest time counts down and you either do another set or pick a different exercise. The app builds a chart for you to keep track of weight and reps. LIke I said, very basic... Value Proposition of Lifting Log (competitor) 1) For which market is the value proposition being created? Application: coreFIT 6 Team: Precision Design Concepts, INC People who already lift on a regular basis and understand the exercises needed to keep in shape. I would expect the users of this app to be intermediate to advanced. 2) What does the market value most? This particular market wants to be able to use an app to better keep track of their exercises. They’ve been using the paper/pen method and writing everything down as they workout and this app values the ability to quickly and accurately keep track of their exercises and workout routines. 3) Which products or services are being offered? Logging exercises, keeping track of weight and reps and building a chart to see results. 4) What are the benefits the market will derive from the product or service? Users won’t need to carry around their pad and pencil anymore. All they need is their phone to keep track of their exercises. 5) What alternative options does the market have to the product or service? Pen and Paper, similar apps, websites, books. Benefits/Costs/Value of Lifting Log Benefits: Provides the user with the ability to log their exercises including the weight and number of reps. Does not provide a way to modify an exercise or delete if you make a mistake. There is also an annoying beep that you can’t turn off or change when the rest complete, in between sets. Costs: Free! However, you get what you pay for! Not much came with the app. Application: coreFIT 7 Team: Precision Design Concepts, INC Value: Very basic app. It basically lets you log your exercise and then graphs the exercises over time. Competitive Analysis 2 Competitor Product description: iFitness is an iPhone, iPad, and Android app that contains more than 450 strength training exercises and allows users to learn exercises, track workouts, and track the progress of their physique. Functional properties: The iFitness app provides users with a library of more than 450 exercises, each of which are tied to a text description, audio instruction, HD image, and HD video. The app allows users to pull from this library of exercises to create workouts. Workouts can be tracked by date. Exercises within workouts can be tracked by reps, sets, and weights. The app also includes a weight and body measurement tracking feature. All workouts and information are stored for future reference/use. Users can also choose from preset workouts, in the categories of Beginner, Fat Loss/Tone, Home-Based, Muscle Building, and Strength. Finally, the iFitness app has integrated a music player that plays a random shuffle of music stored on the user’s device. This app does not allow users to share their workouts or interact with other users. Notable design properties: 1. The iFitness app’s main design feature is its categorization of exercises, offering users several options for finding exercises: by muscle, by body part, and by gym equipment. Each list item is represented by text and a corresponding icon. Tabs at the bottom of the screen allow users to switch between the aforementioned options. 2. The training log uses the same type of calendar interface that is inherent to the iPhone/iPad, making it easy for users to quickly know how to navigate the calendar. Application: coreFIT 8 Team: Precision Design Concepts, INC 3. The preset workouts allow a user to easily navigate from type of workout (i.e., Beginner), to specific workouts in this category, to a workout plan that breaks down each day of the workout into a list of specific exercises. The exercises appear below “Day 1” or “Day 2”, making it quick for the user to see what the full workout will look like. 4. In the screen that lists exercises by day in the preset workout feature, the app includes an easy “Log This” button that automatically adds the preset workout to the user’s list of “My Workouts”. 5. At the individual exercise level within a workout, the app provides a large “Start” button that takes the user to a screen that allows them to record reps and weight for each set of this exercise. Once the user has entered this information, the pressing of a large button labeled “Done” removes the exercise from the flow and brings the user automatically to the next exercise in the workout. 6. Throughout the app, the screens maintain a clean design, with large text. The main app menu exists universally at the top of the screen, making it accessible at all times but keeps it from being a distraction. Customer Value Proposition: For people interested in strength training and changing their physique through strength training, from beginners to advanced exercisers, the iFitness app provides the tools to learn new exercises, create workouts, and track progress easily and conveniently on a mobile device. Requirements Gathering Methodology Survey We chose to send out a survey via social networks in order to gain a larger amount of data on several simple, surface-level questions. This methodology gave us some detail as to what respondents are looking for in an app of the type we are planning, including the type of features a user would expect in such an app. We also were able Application: coreFIT 9 Team: Precision Design Concepts, INC to explore the app use and fitness habits of respondents. Overall, we had 40 respondents reply to the survey. Interviews We chose to conduct semi-structured interviews to go into greater depth into potential user’s workout habits and preferences, and their interest in a fitness app. We spoke to the following five people: • Male, 25 years old • Male, 29 years old • Female, 28 years old • Female, 56 years old • Female, 60 years old Requirements Gathering Findings Survey Our team designed a series of questions to test the market on the personal fitness matter. Our analysis is based on forty one responses. It turns out that 41.5% of respondents use a fitness application to assist them in their daily workouts. We found that My Fitness Pal, Nike Training Club and Run Keeper were the three most frequently used applications. When asked about the most valuable information tracked, while working out, these issues became most apparent: workout time 65.9%, number of sets, number of reps and amount of weight lifted each received 26.8%, effort came in last with 12.2%. 41.5% of respondents indicated that weight is their primary fitness goal which they constantly track. This came as no surprise. However, surprising was the fact that 39% of respondents indicated they do not track any information at all. Application: coreFIT 10 Team: Precision Design Concepts, INC
