'T" WILKINSON ARE NOT SURPRISED BY HIS individualistic, creative thinking and "straight Texas style shooting" approach to teaching. His long-term editorship of Technical Forum has allowed him to draw upon the innovative contributions of plastic surgical experts and the free flow of important procedural commentaries. Describing the intricate art and science of plastic surgery in writing is a formidable challenge. My congratulations to him for meeting this challenge. The importance of exchanging critical commentaries from plastic surgery experts cannot be overemphasized. The text departs somewhat from traditional writing by frequently draWing upon the critical but subtle capsule comments and anecdotes of others. Characteristically, small personal pearls of wisdom and helpful tips are often exchanged at meetings, but many are seldom published. The importance of their publication here is its obvious wider exposure. This is certainly well done in this text, which applies a wealth of special emphasis on the practical technical detail of standard and new procedures. This is especially helpful when new, innovative procedures or modification of old procedures may lack wide-spread evaluation and rapid feedback The chapters on facial procedures, fat grafting, and adjunctive procedures are especially instructionaL Good results can be obtained by combining small, multiple procedures, i.e., cheek augmentation, fat grafting, liposuction, and combined peeling with a standard rhytidectomy. You will find that the consistent v VI Foreword attention to detail allows the surgeon to easily follow step-by-step through various procedures. The very innovative footnote-style commentaries of many experienced plastic surgery experts add tremendously to understanding the true value of various procedures. It is obvious in his writing that Dr. "T" places special emphasis on searching for the truth in evaluating new procedures, attempting to avoid the inaccuracies and exaggerations that often accompany such techniques. This fine text is an excellent guide to performing both standard and new aesthetic procedures. My congratulations to Dr. Tolbert Wilkinson for a very important and useful contribution. STEVEN M.
