Introduction AIMS • To describe biological and pathological basis • To introduce histomorphological pattern • To correlate ALI/DAD with ILD’s Definition • Acute lung injury (ALI) is defined as the rapid alteration of alveolar walls with resultant impaired gas exchange that follows a toxic insult to the lung. • The most severe cases are classified as the acute respiratory syndrome (ARDS) (based on the degree of hypoxemia). • ALI and ARDS patients have bilateral infiltrates on chest Xray in the absence of heart failure.
