year and livd in a cabin south of
Judge P. Wheeler's farm near
the Sciota river. Moved to ?
Point and opened a tavern in
1838 and continued in the same
place for 16 years. Drove a
stage for 5 years over the Old
Sandusky Road, which was the
chief route of travel from
Cincinnati to Sandusky City.
There were but t? cabins
between Bellefontiane and
Judge Wheeler's farm the whole
run being through a dense
forest.

Ogden were married Dec 10th
1829 came to Hardin Co and
camped out in the woods until a
cabin could be built. Moved
into the cabin without roof.
The month of June during the
years of 1834-35-36 and 37 was
very wet. The summer of 1838
was ? and dry. A severe frost
came the 3rd of Sept 1838 that
injured ? corn.

Elizabeth Ogden was born in
Meigs county, O. July 25th
1829, emigrated with him to
Hardin county in August 1833 ,
and endured the hardest of
pioneer life with her
characteristic fortitude. She
united with the M. E. church
almost fifty years ago and after
an illness of seventy-seven days
entered eternal life at the age
of 71 years, 4 mos. and 24
days.

the county was taught by Eli
Strong. For ten dollars per
month and boarded himself.
The school house was a round
log cabin, stick chimney and
mud fire place, ? A log was cut
out and greased paper was used
for glass. There were split logs -
this was during the winter of
1839 and 40. Wolves were
plenty and could be heard
howling almost nightly. Our ?
crop was certain until about
1850. He was accidently fallen ?
Lima Oio by the falling of a
building upon which he was at
work. His remains was brought
here on the 19th and the
funeral took place ? ? the cor.

in 1815. My husband drew the
town plat of Kenton and sent it
to Columbus for record. Our
cabin was the first one built on
the town plat and I and my
youngest son took the first
grubs, that were taken from the
town plat of Kenton. We
moved into our cabin on the 4th
of July 1833. We boarded the
man who surveyed the town
plat.
