Frederick William Faberwas born at Cal- verley,Yorkshire,England,June 28, 1814,anddied atLondon,September26,1S63. Hebeganhiscareer asaclergymanoftheEnglishChurch,buteventually followed John Henry Newman into thatof Rome, which has a strong attraction for a certain class of poetic, enthusiasticminds. His prose works are littleread outside of the church inwhichtheywere written; but his poems, among which are several favoritehymns,have found wide and loving accept- ance.
