INTRODUCTION The genusPhyllogomphoides Belle, 1970, is composed of45 species in the Neotropical Region (BELLE, 1970, 1982, 1984, 1991, 1992, 1993, 1994;GARRI- SON, 1991; NEEDHAM, 1904, 1911, 1940, 1941, 1944; NOVELO, 1993; RAMIREZ, 1996;RODRIGUES CAPITULO, 1992),29oftheseinSouthAmerica. P. annectens is known only in Brazil (BELLE, 1970). N.D. Santos and J.M. Costa collected oneexample in its last instar, in theReserva de Tingua, Rio de Janeiroon 10-VIII-1973,whichwas rearedinSantos’laboratory andwhichemerged on 25-IX-I973, andis describedherein. In 1992, this example was loaned to Belle, and was identifiedby him as Phyllogomphoides annectens. NOVELO-GUTIERREZ (1993) definesthe existence oftwo main lineages in Phyllogomphoides, oneSouthAmerican,theotherMiddleAmerican,eachcharac- terizedby larval morphology. P. annectens ispart ofthe SouthAmerican lineage anditis includedinthegroupannectens described by BELLE (1982). 80 J.M.Costa,T.C.Santos&A.M.Telles DESCRIPTION Material.-!exuviae (rearedandpreservedinalcohol70%),RiodeJaneiro, ReservadeTingua, I0-VI1I-I973, N.D.Santos andJ.M.Costa leg.;in collection ofMuseu Nacional.
