DISCUSSION Philogenia marinasilvasp. n.belongs to thecassandra species-group. InBICK & BICK(1988) itkeys out to P. schmidtiRis, fromwhich itdiffersincharacters shown in TableI, all related to the anal appendages. Thisdifferenceismostlikelyontogenetic; as pointed out by RIS(1918), in P.schmidtithethoracic colouris age-dependent. P. marinasilvawas collectedinthe northernpartofthe stateofAcreandrepre- sentsthesecond unquestionable recordofthegenusinBrazil.Thefirstrecordis thatoftwo P. margaritaSel.males, listed by SELYS(1862). Thesameauthor(SELYS, 1886) listedalso two P. cassandraSel.malesfromthe MacLachlancollection,collectedat“Elaut-Amazone:Pebas; Tefe”.Thepossible significance of the informationon this label, used also in several otherspecies studiedby Selys, was discussedby MACE1ADO(1985). Theproblem is thatPe- basis locatedin PeruandTefe inBrazil, bothontheAmazon. Whilethecoun- tryofprovenanceofthesingle Forcepsioneura ephippigera (Sel.)specimen stud- iedcannot beidentified, thetwo countries couldbe represented by oneeachof thetwo P. cassandraspecimens. RACENIS(1959) interpretedthe Selysian 1886 P. cassandrarecordas anindicationthe species occurs in Brazil.TSUDA(2000) questioned itscountryprovenance,whereasLENCIONI(2005)andHECKMAN (2008) donot regard P cassandraas a memberoftheBrazilian fauna. With only two known species, P margarita and P. marinasilva the Brazilian , Philogenia fauna ispoor compared to that ofPeru, Colombia, Venezuelaand Bolivia — allcountrieswithAmazonianForest. Itisreasonabletoexpect, there- fore, thatmanymoreBraziliancongenersare stilltobediscoveredand described, particularlysofromtheAmazon Forest.
