After completing his Ph.D. in Greek and Latin at Columbia University and receiving his ordination at the Jewish Theological Seminary, he taught at Wes leyan and Columbia universities and the University of Judaism before coming to the GTU in 1966. He was a Fellow at the Institute for Ad vanced Studies at the Hebrew University, Jerusalem, in 1976, and re ceived a senior NEH fellowship for 1978. In 1977 he was elected Fellow of the American Academy for Jewish Research. He is a mem ber and trustee of the Philo Institute, and was director of the Philo Project at GTU-UCB, 1976-1978, funded by an NEH grant. He is currently vice-president of the Society of Biblical Literature, Pacific Coast Section. Dr. Winston has published many scholarly articles and is the author of a new translation and commentary on the wisdom of Solomon in the Anchor Bible (Doubleday, 1979).
