Thank you for joining us in the Windy City! On behalf of the NFA Board of Directors, staff, and volunteers, I wel- come you to our 42nd annual convention, “Perform, Inspire, Educate!” While this convention honors the tradi- tions of our heritage, it also allows us to look ahead to the flute of the future. Hear cherished favorites, discover world premieres and other unfamiliar works, gain teach- Beth Chandler ing perspectives, and try new instruments and products. A highlight of each convention is celebrating our annual award honorees. Join us at the Gala Awards Dinner on Saturday to honor 2014 Lifetime Achievement Award recipients Robert Dick and Maxence Larrieu and 2014 Distinguished Service Award recipient Patti Adams. The pre-dinner cocktail reception is open to all; register for the dinner until Friday at noon. A portion of the purchase of your ticket is a tax- deductible donation to the NFA’s General Endowment Fund, ensuring a long-term future for the NFA. Also plan to attend the Friday Flute Lovers’ Luncheon, featuring MacArthur Fellow, activist, and flutist Claire Chase, and the Saturday morning Teachers’ Breakfast with Angeleita Floyd—purchase tickets for the Luncheon until Thursday at noon and for the Breakfast until Friday at noon. A huge thank-you goes to our artistically astute and hard-working 2014 Program Chair Philip Dikeman and Assistant Program Chair Alice Dade, who have given us nearly two years’ worth of volunteer time to produce this convention. We welcome Executive Director Kelly Jocius. His experience in nonprofit manage- ment of music organizations has already propelled the NFA forward in numerous ways. We also welcome Convention Director Kris Mayo and Membership Manager Vicky Pampe. They join Publications Director Anne Welsbacher and IT/ Web Consultant Brian Covington. We also welcome the inaugural class of NFA interns (listed on page 16); this new program has included the assistance of three interns in our Chicago office throughout the year and 12 summer interns at the convention. Local Arrangements Chair Janice Frank, Volunteer Coordinator Jennie Brown, and their team of Chicago volunteers have been wonderful assets in showcasing all there is to enjoy here in Chicago and in helping ensure that the convention runs smoothly. Our Commercial Members and exhibitors are key components of our convention experience. You won’t find a better selection of flutes, products, and services any- where. Join me in visiting their booths, thanking them for their participation, and providing plentiful patronage! Thanks to our many convention sponsors! We greatly appreciate your involvement and commitment to this convention. Of course, our per- formers and presenters are the primary focus of our programming. And the contribu- HY tions of many others make the convention successful. Thank you! P RA The officers and Board look forward to meeting you! Please say “hello”; we love to G TO hear your ideas about how we can make the NFA even better for you! We next gather O PH in Washington, D.C., August 13–16, 2015. Until we meet again, enjoy Chicago!
