The purpose of the Course was to contrlbute to the professional tralnlng of the staff of the China Councll for the Promotion of Internatlonal Trade and the staff of other agencies and institutions which, by reason of their respon- sibilitles in relation to research, development and industrlal productlon, are potential users of the patent system. One hundred and threnty Chinese offlcials partlcipated in the Course. Twenty lectures were given by the Director General and two other offlcials of WIPO, one official of the United States Patent and Trademark Office, and by three experts invlted by WIPO from the private sector. The texts of the lectures, as well as a Glossary of the terms of the law of patents, !,rere translated into Chinese and distrlbuted to the participants ln advance. Each lecture was followed by a dls- cusslon betlreen the lecturer and his audience. The present volume contatns the texts of the 20 lectures (wlthout exhlbits), the Glossary and slx lnformation docunents. The sald texts were translated into Chinese, printed and publlshed by the Chlna Councll for the Promotlon of International Trade.
