This infallible word of God is most esteemed among all other رادﺎﺑ ﻞﺑ ﻪﻧ وا ﺪﻧوﺎﺧ ﻞﺑ ﻪﺘﺴﻧ هد ﻪﻠﯧﺑ ﻪﭼ ،هﺮﻟ ﺪﻧوﺎﺧ ﻪﻐﻫ ئد سﺎﭙﺳ وا ﻪﻨﻳﺎﺘﺳ written works. Praise be to God, there is none more exalted than Him. He is the Lord who has bestowed man with the power of speech. ﻢﻬﻠﻣ ﺎﻴﻧو ﻲﻐﻴﻠﺑ يﺮﻫ د وا ،ﻲﻟﺎﭘ وﺮﺒﺧ وږﻮﺧ ﻪﭘ نﺎﺴﻧا ﻪﭼ ،ئد ېد ﻦﺘښڅ ،ﻮﻳړﮔو د Blessed be the Prophet (Peace be upon Him) who showed us the .ئد right and virtuous path. ،ﻪﻟوﻮښوار ﯥﺗ ږﻮﻣ ﻪﭼ مﻼﺴﻟاو ةاﻮﻠﺼﻟا ﻪﻴﻠﻋ ،ئد ﺮﺒﻤﻐﻴﭘ ﻪﻐﻫ ﺮﭘ دوﺪﺤﻣﺎﻧ دورد Verse .هدور وا رﻻ ﻪﻤﺳ The leader of universe, may I be devoted to him ﺖﻴﺑ Most exalted in the universe, I am devoted to him. ﻢﺳ رﺎﺟ هد ﺮﺗ ﻮﺗﺎﻗﻮﻠﺨﻣ د رﻮﻣﺎﻧ ئد ىد ﻢﺳ رﺎﺟ هد ﺮﺗ ﻮﺗﺎﻨﻳﺎﮐ د ﺮﺒﻫر ئد ىد May God's blessing be on his children and companions, illuminat- ing in the sky like stars. Were it not for them we would not have found ﻪڼر ىﺪﻫ د نﺎﻤﺳا ﺮﭘ ﻪﭼ ،ﻮﺑﺎﺤﺻا وا دﻻوا ﺮﭘ هد د ،يو يد ﻪﻧﻮﺘﻤﺣر ياﺪﺧ د the right and truthful path and would have perished in ignorance. ﻪﻟ ﻪﺑ رﻻ ﻪﻤﺳ ﻦﻳد د ىاو ﻪﻧ يود ﻪﮐ ،ﻰﻤﻏ نﻼځ ۍﻤﺗﻮﮔ د ﺮﺒﻤﻐﻴﭘ د وا ،يد يرﻮﺘﺳ Verse .رﻮﮑﺴﻧ ؤ ﻪﺑ رو ﺖﻤﺣر د وا ،ياو ﻪﮐرو هږﻮﻣ The Prophets are like stars in the sky ﺖﻴﺑ Illuminating the earth where we stand They have enlightened our dark lives ىرﻮﻟ ﻪﭘ رﻮﮐ ﯥﺋ ﺎڼر ﻲځ ىرﻮﺘﺳ نﺎﻤﺳا د يﺪﻫ د May their soul find peace in the promised land. ﻪﻧﺎﻨﺟ ﻪﭘ ښﻮﺧ يو ېد ىود ﻪﻧﺎښور هړﮐ ﯥﺋ ږﻮﻣز ﻪﭙﺷ In particular may the blessing of God be on Prophet Mohammad and his four companions, children and grand children. ورﻮﻏ ﺮﭘ ﻲﺒﻧ د ،ﻮﻧارﺎﻳ ورﻮﻠڅ ﺮﭘ لزﺎﻧ يو ېد ﻪﻧﻮﺘﻤﺣر ياﺪﺧ د هړﮐ صﺎﺧ ﻪﭘ .ناﺪﻧﺎﺧ وا ﻮﻴﺴﻤﻟ ﺮﭘ هد د وا ،ﻮﻳﺮﮕﻠﻣ 2 Let it be known that speech is a special gift of mankind. It is ﻪﻐﻫ جﺎﺗ ﻖﻄﻧ د وا ،هد ﻪﺻﺎﺧ هرﻮﻏ نﺎﺴﻧا د ﺎﻨﻳو ﻪﭼ ،ﺊﺷ هﻮﭘ ېد ﻪﭘ ،ﺪﻌﺑ ﺎﻣا something that God has only bestowed on man. In every era the ياﺪﺧ ﻲﮐ ﻪﻧﺎﻣز هﺮﻫ ﻪﭘ وا ړﮐ رﻮﮑﺴﻧ ﺮﺳ ﺮﭘ مدآ د ﻰﻟﺎﻌﺗ ﻖﻟﺎﺧ ﻪﭼ ،ئد جﺎﺗ ﺎﻨﻣﺮﮐ د Almighty God has created eloquent poets and orators who have been ﺬﻴﻣﻼﺗ ءاﺮﻌﺸﻟا ﻪﭼ ،لړﮐ اﺪﻴﭘ ناﺪﻧوﺎﺧ ﺎﻨﻳو د وا ،ناﺮﻋﺎﺷ هرﻮﻏ ﻲﮐ ﻮﻧﺎﻧﺎﺴﻧا ﻪﭘ ﻰﻟﺎﻌﺗ considered the disciples of the Lord. They have written heart-rendering هړز نﺎﺴﻧا د ﻪﭼ ،يد ېږﻮﺧ ﯥﺳاد ﻪﻠﮐ ﺮﻫ يوﺎﻨﻳو ىود د وا ،لﻮﺳ ﻞڼﮔو ،ﻦﻤﺣﺮﻟا verse through the ages. .يو ﻢﻫﺮﻣ وړز وږﻮﺧ د وا ،ﻲﻣﻮﻣ ﻪﭘ حاﺮﺸﻧا I am Mohammad Hothek, a Pashtoon, who lives in Qandahar. It ﻪﭼ ،هد هﺮﻳډ ﻪﻟ ،ﻢﺳوا ﻲﮐ رﺎﻫﺪﻨﻗ ﻪﭘ نﻮﺘښﭘ ﻞﺻا ﻪﭘ وا ،ﻢﻳ ﮏﺗﻮﻫ ﺪﻤﺤﻣ ﻪﭼ هز has been for a long time that I have been interested in poetry and have ﺮﻳډ اد وا ،ئد رﺎﮐ ﻪﻏد ﻢﻫ ﻲﻣ ﻲځرو وا ﯥﭙﺷ د وا ،ﻢﻳ ﺖﺨﺑ ؤﺎﻨﻳو ﯥﺳاد د ﻮﻠﻳو ﻪﭘ spent a great deal of my free time devoted to its reading. It has been a long time since I have wanted to complete a biography of Pashto poets يود د وا مږﺎﮐو هﺮﮐﺬﺗ ﻮﻧاﺮﻋﺎﺷ ﻮﺘښﭘ د هز ﻪﭼ ،ﻪﺘښﻮﻏ ﺎﻣ ﻪﭼ ،لﻮﺳ ﺮﯧﺗ ﻪﻧﻮﺘﻗو but have been unable to do so due to the prevailing circumstances. ﻲﮐ هړز ﻪﭘ ﻲﻣ ﻪﻠﻴﻫ اد وا ،ﺎﮐ ار ﻪﻧ غاﺮﻓ ﻪﺗ ﺎﻣ ﯥﻧﺎﻣز ﺮﮕﻣ ،مﺪﻧﺎﮐ لﻮټ ار هﺮﺳ لاﻮﺣا This is because Qandahar has been under the heel of tyranny. وا دﻮﻟرد ﻪﻧ مارآ ﺎﭽﯧﻫ وا ،ؤ توﺮﭘ ﻢﺗ رﻮﺗ ﺎﻔﺟ وا ﻢﻠﻇ د رﺎﻫﺪﻨﻗ ﺮﭘ ﻪﭼ ﻪﮑځ ،هﻮﺳ ﻪﭼو Sometimes the Mongols raided it and at other times it was oppressed .ؤ نارﻮﺳ ﻢﺘﺳ د ﻦﻴﮔﺮﮔ د ﻪﺑ ﻲﻫﺎﮔ وا ،لړﮐ ﻪﻧووﺎﭙﭼ ﻮﻟﻮﻐﻣ ﻪﺑ ﻲﻫﺎﮔ .غاﺮﻓ ﻪﻧ by Gurgin. ﻪﻧوړز هﻮﺳ غرﺎﻓ وا ،ﻪﺨڅ ﻮﻤﻠﻇ ﻮﻐﻫ ﻪﻟ وړﮐ صﻼﺧ ږﻮﻣ ﻰﻟﺎﻌﺗ ﻖﺣ ﻪﭼ سوا Now that the clement God has released us from cruelty we have وا ،ﻪﺘﺳﺎﻳو هرﺎﻫﺪﻨﻗ ﻪﻟ ىود ،ﻪﻤﺣﺮﻟا ﻪﻴﻠﻋ ،نﺎﺧﺮﻴﻣ ﻲﺟﺎﺣ ﮏﻠﻣ ږﻮﻣز وا ،ږﻮﻣز managed to breath the air of freedom. The oppressors have been ار ﻲﻣ ﻢﻠﻗ وا ،ﻪﻫوﺪﻧا ﻪﻟ ﻮﺳ غرﺎﻓ هړز ﺎﻣز ﻮﻧ ،لړﮐ دازآ هرﻮﺟ ﻪﻟ ىود د ﯥﺋ ﻪﻧﺎﺘښﭘ driven away from Qandahar by Haji Mir Khan, God's mercy be on him, مﺎﻣا ،رﻮﺗ ﻮﮔﺮﺘﺳ د اﻮﺨﻧﻮﺘښﭘ ږﻮﻣز ﻮﺳ ﺮﺒﺧ ېدارا ﻪﻟ ﺎﻣز ﻪﭼ ﺖﻗو ﻪﻐﻫ ،ﺖﺴﻴﺧاو and the Pashtoons have been freed from their cruelty. With my worries abated I have decided to complete this work. When His Majesty Shah مﻮﻳ ﻲﻟا ﻪﺘﻟود ﻪﱣﻠﻟا مادا ،ﻦﻴﺴﺣ هﺎﺷ ،ﻦﻳﺮﻓﺎﮑﻟا و ﺔﻀﻓﺮﻟا ﻞﺗﺎﻗ ﻦﺑا و ،ﻦﻴﻤﻠﺴﻤﻟا Hussain Hothek, light of Pashtoonkhwa, leader of Moslems, the van- .ﻦﻳﺪﻟا quisher of the infidels and the preserver of the faith, learned of my ﺖﻴﺑ intentions he summoned me to his court and encouraged me to fulfill ﮏﻠﻣ ىﻮﻟ ئد ىد ﻲﮐ ﻮﻧﺎﮑﻠﻣ ﻪﭘ ﮏﺗﻮﻫ ﻦﻴﺴﺣ ﺎﺷدﺎﭘ ﻮﻨﺘښﭘ د this task. ﻰﻤﻏ اد نﻼځ يو يد ﻞﺗ ﻪﻘﻟﺎﺧ ىﺪﻧړﮔ يوز ﻰﻠﺘښﻏ ﺮﻴﻣ ﻰﺟﺎﺟ د Verse Shah Hussain Hothek the Pashtoon king Who is the greatest emperor of them all, He is the brave and nimble son of Haji Mir God let not this star among us fall. 3 Our king, Shah Hussain, venerated by the Shalemkhel, may God هرﺎﮑښ ﯥﺋ فﺎﻄﻟا وا ،ﺎﮐو ﻖﻳﻮﺸﺗ ﯥﺋ ﻪﺗ ﺎﻣ وا ،ﻪﺗ رﺎﺑرد ﻞﭙﺧ ﻢﺘښﻮﻏو هز ﯥﺋ ﻮﻧ prolong his reign, is a good orator and a lover of poetry. He summoned ﻪﮑځ ،مﺪﻧﺎﮐ لﻮټ ار هﺮﺳ لﺎﺣ ﻮﻧاﺮﻋﺎﺷ ﻮﻨﺘښﭘ د وا ،مﺪﻧﺎﮐ هرﻮﭘ هدارا ﻪﻠﭙﺧ اد ﻪﭼ ﺎﮐ me to his court, encouraged me and showed kindness so I may fulfill ،ﺔﻨﻄﻠﺳ و ﻪﮑﻠﻣ ﻪﱣﻠﻟاﺪﻠﺧ ﻦﻴﺴﺣ هﺎﺷ ،ﺮﺳ هړز د ﻮﻠﻴﺧ ﻢﻟﺎښ د وا ،هﺎﺷدﺎﭘ ږﻮﻣز ﻪﭼ my desire to write a biography of Pashto poets. Thus I strived to finish ﺮﺗ رژ ﻪﭼ ﻪﺘښﻮﻏو ﺎﻣ ﻮﻧ ،ئد ﻦﻤﻗﻮﺷ ﺮﻌﺷ د ﻮﺘښﭘ د وا ﺪﻧوﺎﺧ ﺎﻨﻳو ﯥښ د ﻢﻫ ﻪﻠﭙﺨﭘ the book with urgency and to complete a biography of Pashtoon poets. Let it be known that I have been gathering information on .ﻲﺳ ړﮐ لﻮټ لاﻮﺣا ﻮﻧاﺮﻋﺎﺷ د ﻮﺘښﭘ د وا ،ﻲﺳ ﻰﻠښﮐو بﺎﺘﮐ اد ،هرژ Pashtoon poets for the past 30 years. While traveling in Pashtoonkhwa ،ﻮﻨﺘښﭘ د ﻮﻧاﺮﻋﺎﺷ وﺮﻳډ د ،ﻲﺴﻴﻫ ار ﻮﻟﺎﮐ ﻮﺷﺮﻳد ﻪﻟ ﺎﻣ ﻪﭼ ،يو ېد هرﺎﮑښ I heard interesting stories about these poets and am now able to write ﻮﻳړﮔو ﻪﻟ ،مﺪﯦزﺮﮔ ﻮﺘﻟ ﺮﭘ اﻮﺨﻧﻮﺘښﭘ د ﻪﭼ ،ﻪﻧﻮﺘﻗو ﻪﻐﻫ وا ،ىد يړﮐ لﻮټ ار ﻪﻧﻮﻟاﻮﺣا about them at the request of our king, shadow of God. The name of ﻪﭘ ﻪﻠﱣﻟا ﻞﻇ هﺎﺷدﺎﭘ ﻞﭙڅ د ،لﻮټ ﻪﻐﻫ سوا وا ،يد ﻰﻟﺪﯦروا ﻪﻧﻮﻟﺎﺣ ﻪښ ﺮﻳډ ﻲﻣ ﻪﺨڅ this book is Pata Khazana (The Hidden Treasure). I selected this title ﻲﻠﻏار ﻪﻧﻮﻟاﻮﺣا ﻪﻐﻫ ﻪﺘﻟد ﻪﭼ ﻪﮑځ “ﻪﻧاﺰﺧ ﻪټﭘ” يد مﻮﻧ بﺎﺘﮐ ېد د ،مږﺎﮐ ﻰﻨﺘښﻮﻏ because a great deal of the information presented here has been hidden and remained obscure over the years. May all Moslems be د ږﻮﻣز وا ،ﻲښﺨﺑو نﺎﻧﺎﻤﻠﺴﻣ لﻮټ ىد ﻰﻟﺎﻌﺗ ﻖﻟﺎﺧ ،هرﺎﮑښ ؤ ﻪﻧ وا ،ؤ ټﭘ ﻪﭼ ،يد pardoned by the Almighty and may our king live long. I started writing هو ځرو ،ﺎﮐو ءاﺪﺘﺑا ﻮﻠښﮐ ﻪﭘ ﺎﻣ ﻪﭼ بﺎﺘﮐ ﻪﻏد ﻪﭘ ،ﻢﻳاد وا يو ﻞﺗ ېد ىرﻮﻴﺳ هﺎﺷدﺎﭘ this book on Friday, the 16 of Jamadi-al-Thani 1141 Hijera (1728 A.D.). .يﺮﺠﻫ ١١٤١ هو ﻪﻨﺳ ﻰﻧﺎﺜﻟا ىدﺎﻤﺟ د ١٦ ﯥﻌﻤﺟ د :ئد ﻢﺴﻘﻨﻣ ﻮﻧاﺰﺧ ورد ﺮﭘ بﺎﺘﮐ ﻪﻏد This book contains three treasures: .يد يﻮﺳ ﺮﯧﺗ اﻮﺨﭘ ﻪﭼ ،ﻮﻧاﺮﻋﺎﺷ ﻪﻐﻫ د نﺎﻴﺑ ﻪﭘ :ﻪﻧاﺰﺧ يړﻤﻟ The First Treasure: The work of past poets. The Second Treasure: The work of contemporary poets who are .يد يﺪﻧوژ سوا ﻪﭼ ،ﻮﻧاﺮﻋﺎﺷ ﻮﻐﻫ د ﻲﮐ نﺎﻴﺑ ﻪﭘ :ﻪﻧاﺰﺧ ﻪﻤﻫود alive. ﻪﺗﺎﭘ ﻪﻧوﺮﻌﺷ ﻮﺘښﭘ ﻪﭘ ىود ﻪﭼ ﻮځښ وا ﻮﻨﻴﺗرا ﻮﻐﻫ د ﻲﮐ نﺎﻴﺑ ﻪﭘ :ﻪﻧاﺰﺧ ﻪﻤﻳرد The Third Treasure: The work of Pashto poetesses whose poetry .ىد يړﮐ is known to us. 4 ﻪﻧاﺰﺧ ۍړﻤﻟ The First Treasure Poets of the past whose work is known to us یود د ﻪﺗ ږﻮﻣ وا يﻮﺳ ﺮﯧﺗ اﻮﺨﭘ ﻪﭼ ﻮﻧاﺮﻋﺎﺷ ﻮﻐﻫ د ﯽﮐ نﺎﯿﺑ ﻪﭘ يد هرﺎﮑښ ېوﺎﻨﯾو BABA HOTHEK Eminent shaikh, pivot of the sagacious and one who has reached God, God's mercy be on him ﻦﯿﻠﺻاﻮﻟا ةﺪﺑز و ﻦﯿﻓرﺎﻌﻟا ﺐﻄﻗ ،ﺦﯾﺎﺸﻤﻟا ﺦﯿﺷ د ﺮﮐذ ﻪﻤﺣﺮﻟا ﻪﯿﻠﻋ ﮏﺗﻮﻫ ﺎﺑﺎﺑ He was a famous saint whose miracles are well known. It is said that his father Baro, God's mercy be on him, was the son of Tular who ﻪﯿﻠﻋ ورﺎﺑ رﻼﭘ هد د ﻪﭼ :ئد ﻞﻘﻧ ،تﺎﻣاﺮﮐ هد د يد رﻮﻬﺸﻣ وا ؤ ﺦﯿﺷ یﻮﻟ was the son of Baba Ghaljay, God's mercy be on him, a chief of the ﻲﮐ ﺖﻗو ﻞﭙﺨﭘ ﻪﭼ ،ﻪﯿﻠﻋ ﻪﱣﻠﻟا ﺔﻤﺣر ؤ ﯽﺠﻠﻏ ﺎﺑﺎﺑ رﻼﭘ ﺮﻟﻮﺗ د وا ؤ یوز ﺮﻟﻮﺗ د ﻪﻤﺣﺮﻟا Pashtoons at his time. Hothek was born in the year 661 H. (1263 A.D.) in Atghar.1 When he became a man, he devoted his life to prayers. He وا ،ﻲﮐ ٦٦١ يﺮﺠﻫ ﮥﻨﺳ ﻪﭘ ،ؤ ﯽﻟﺪﯾږﯾز ﻲﮐ ﺮﻐﺗا ﻪﭘ ﮏﺗﻮﻫ ﻮﻨﺘښﭘ د يﺪﯿﮐ ﻞڼﮔ ﺮﺸﻣ 2 was the chief of his tribe at Atghar and Syoray. مﻮﻗ د ﻲﮐ يرﻮﺳ وا ﺮﻐﺗا ﻪﭘ وا تدﺎﺒﻋ یاﺪﺧ د ﺎﮐ ﯥﺋ ﻮﻧ ،ﻮﺳ یﻮﻟ ﻪﭼ ﺖﻗو ﻪﻐﻫ It has been narrated: At that time the Mongols raided the banks of .ؤ رادﺎﺑ وا رادﺮﺳ 3 the Arghandab river several times and ravaged Atghar, Awlan and ،هوﺎﮐ ټﻮﻟ وړﺎﻏ ﺮﭘ باﺪﻨﻏرا د ﻮﻟﻮﻐﻣ ﻞځ ﺮﻫ ﻪﺑ ﻲﮐ ﺖﻗو ﻪﻐﻫ ﻪﭘ :ﻪﭼ ئد ﻞﻘﻧ Kalat. Baba Hothek gathered his tribesmen to fight the marauding Mongols near Sur Ghar4 (Sur mountain). In this battle the Mongols د وا ،لړﮐ لﻮټ ار ﻪﻧﻮﻣﻮﻗ ﻞﭙﺧ ،ﮏﺗﻮﻫ ﺎﺑﺎﺑ ،لﻮﮐ ﻻﺎﺗ ﯥﺋ ﻪﺑ تﻼﮐ وا نﻻوا وا ﺮﻐﺗا were defeated and the Pashtoon warriors killed a great number of ﻮﻨﺘښﭘ د وا ،لﻮﺳ ﻻﺎﺗ لﻮﻐﻣ ﻲﮐ هﺮﮕﺟ ېد ﻪﭘ ،ﻪﻠﺗﻮﺑ هړﺨﺷ ﻮﻟﻮﻐﻣ ﺮﭘ ﯥﺋ هﺮﺳ ﺮﻏ هﺮﺳ them. My father, Daud Khan, narrated to me that: So much Mongol ﻪﻏد ﻪﭘ ﺮﻏ رﻮﺳ :ﻪﭼ ،ﺎﮐو ﻞﻘﻧ ﻲﺳاد نﺎﺧ دؤاد رﻼﭘ ﻞﭙﺧ ﻪﺗ ﺎﻣ ،لژوو ﺮﯦډ ﻮﯾﺪﻧړﮔ blood was spilled on Sur Mountain that it glowed under the sun. The Pashtoon warriors from 7 Margha and Atghar always attacked them and drove them into the mountains. Baba Hothek died at the age of 79 in 740 H. (1339 A.D.). 7 SHAIKH MALIKYAR رﺎﯿﮑﻠﻣ ﺦﯿﺷ راﺮﺳا ﻒﺷﺎﮐ د ﺮﮐذ Discoverer of mysteries ۍړﮕﺑ ﻪﺑﺎﺗﺮﺸﻣ د مﻮﻗ د ﯥﺋ ﻪﺘﺳورو رﻼﭘ ﻪﻐﻫ ﺮﺗ وا ،ؤ یوز ﺮﺸﻣ ﮏﺗﻮﻫ ﺎﺑﺎﺑ د ﻪﭼ He was the eldest son of Baba Hothek and after his father's death ﻮﮕﻨﺟ ﻪﭘ ،ؤ یړﺳ ﺪﻨﻤﺗﻮﻗ وا ﯽﻠﺘښﻏ ﺮﯦډ ﺎﺑﺎﺑ رﺎﯿﮑﻠﻣ :ﻪﭼ ﻲﺴﻫ ﺎﮐ ﻞﻘﻧ .ﻪﻟړﮐ ﺮﺳ ﻪﭘ became chief of the tribe. It is said that Malikyar was a brave and ﺮﯦډ ﻲښﮐ ﻮﺘﻟ ﻪﭘ یرﻮﻴﺳ د ﺎﺑﺎﺑ رﺎﯿﮑﻠﻣ :ﻪﭼ ﻲﺋاو ﻲﺴﻫ .ؤ ډﺑ هﺮﺳ ﻮﻨﺗ ﻮﺴﻟ ﻪﻟ ﻪﺑ ﻲښﮐ strong warrior and was capable of challenging ten men at a time. At the ﻮﻧوﺮﮐ ﻮﺘښﮐ ﻪﭘ ﯥﺋ ﯽﻤﻟز ﻞﭙﺧ وا ،ﻞښﮐو ﻪﻧوﺰﯾرﺎﮐ ﯥﺋ ﻪﺘﻠﻫ وا ،لړﮐ لﻮﺗ ار ناﻮﻠﭙﺧ time of Baba Hothek's death Malikyar was 25 years of age. He رﺎﯿﮑﻠﻣ د وا ،ﺎﮐو ﻞﻏﺮﯾ ﯥﺋ یرﻮﯿﺳ ﺮﭘ ،لﻮﺳ نږﻮﻏ ﻮﯿﻧادو ﻮﻏد ﻪﭘ ﻪﭼ لﻮﻐﻣ ،لرﺎﻤﮔو gathered a large number of his relatives near Syoray, dug underground ،ېﻮﺷ ﻲﻧارو ﯥﻨﯧﻣ ﻮﻨﺘښﭘ د ﻲښﮐ ﻮﮕﻨﺟ ﻮﻏد ﻪﭘ .لﻮﺳو ﻪﻧﻮﮕﻨﺟ ﺖﺨﺳ ﺮﯦډ هﺮﺳ ﺎﺑﺎﺑ canals and engaged his people in agriculture. When the Mongols became aware of this they attacked Syoray. Malikyar fought several ﻲﻤﻟز ﻞﭙﺧ ﯥﺋ ﻪﺘﻠﻫ ،ﻪﺗ اﻮﺧ يزاو ﻪﺗﺎﺧو ﻢﻫ ﻲﻨﯿځ ،ﻪﺗ بوږ وا ﯥﻏﺮﻣ لړﻻو ﻲﻨځ وا battles with the Mongols as a re- ﯥﺴﻫ .ړﮐ نادو ﺎﯿﺑ ﯥﺋ یرﻮﯿﺳ وا ،لړﺷو ﯥﺋ لﻮﻐﻣ ،ﻞﻠﻏار ﻪﺗﺮﯧﺑ وا ،لړﮐ لﻮټ هﺮﺳ sult of which a large number of Pashtoon homes were destroyed. The وا وﺰﯿﻧ ﻮﺘﺨﺳ ﻪﭘ ؛ﻮﺳ کډ ﺮﯦډ ﮏﻧﺮﺗ ﯽﻟﺮﺴﭘ ﻪﭘ ﻲﮐ يﺮﺠﻫ ٧٤٩ ﻪﻨﺳ ﻪﭘ :ﻪﭼ ﺎﮐ ﻞﻘﻧ 8 Pashtoons left for Margha, Zhobe and Waza Khwa. There they re- د ﻪﭼ ﺎﺑﺎﺑ رﺎﯿﮑﻠﻣ .ئﺪﯿﻬﺑ يړﺎﺗ يړﺎﻏ کډ ارﻮﺧ وا ،ﺪﻧﻮﻣو ﻪﻧ ړﭼ ﯥﺋ ﺖﺷﺎﯿﻣ هﻮﯾ ﻪﭘ grouped and returned back to Syoray to attack the Mongols and :ﯥﻠﯾو ﯥﯾ يرﺪﻨﺳ ﻲﺴﻫ ،ﺊﻏار ﻪﺗ وډﻨڅ ﮏﻧﺮﺗ liberate their homeland. It is said that in 749 H. (1348 A.D.) the Tarnak river was overflow- ing its banks during the spring rains and for a period of one month no ﺎﺑﺎﺑ رﺎﯿﮑﻠﻣ د هرﺪﻨﺳ one was able to ford it. When Malikyar Baba came to the bank of the ېرﺎﻏ ﺮﺗ ېړﺎﻏ يږﯿﻬﺑ ﮏﻧﺮﺗ يږﯧﻬﺑ ﮏﻧﺮﺗ river he recited this song: يړاﻮﻏ ﯽﻟﻻ ﻞﭙﺧ ﻮﺧ ﯽﮔړز ﺎﻣز Malikyar Baba's song ﺎﮐ چو يد ﺪﻧوﺎﺧ هدور ﮏﻧﺮﺗ د !هدور هدور ﻪﮐ The Tarnak is flowing, full to its brim, and as it flows هدﻮﺳ ﻪﻠﭙﺧ ،ﺎﻣز ﻲﻣﻮﻣ ﯽﮔړز ﻪﭼ My heart yearns for its beloved, its pretty rose. O river, O river Tarnak, may God dry your deepest vein, So I may attain love's solace without such tormenting pain. 8 Like a torrent, a deluge of separation entwined يړو هﺰﯿﻧ هړز ئد نﻮﺘﻠﯿﺑ د يد ﺰﯿﻧ ئد ﺰﯿﻧ ئد ﺰﯿﻧ ﻪﮐ You bring forth tears in sadness confined. ئد نﻮﺑز ﻢﻏ ﻪﭘ ﻲﻟړژ ﺮﯾو ﻪﭘ A fire that burns within my heart and my restless blood, I wish may erupt and dry this tormenting flood. :ﺎﮐ چو ﻪﺑ روا اد ئد روا ﯥﻣ هړز ﻪﭘ ئد روا ئد روا ﻪﮐ Pay heed to my call, O bright moon, shining above, See how the Tarnak has estranged my ladylove. ئد روز ﻪﭘ ﺮﯦډ ﻞﺑ ﻪﻧوﺰﯿﻧ ﺮﯾو د The murky water has separated Malikyar from the embrace Of his beloved sweetheart, bring forth her enchanting grace. ﻪﯾاوو ﻪﺗرو ﻪﯿﻣږﻮﭙﺳ ﯥﻨﯿﭙﺳ ﻪﺳﻮﯾ ﻪﻨځﻤﻧ ﻪﯿﮕﻟﻮﺧ ﻪﻟ ﺎﺘﺳ مړﮐ لﺎټ ﮏﻧﺮﺗ ﻪﭼ It is said that after reciting this poem a log came floating on the water and got stuck among the reeds on two sides of the river, creating ئد “رﺎﯿﮑﻠﻣ” ﻞﯧﺑ ئړﮐ ناﻮﺳ ﻮﺑوا !وړﺧ وړﺧ ﻪﮐ a bridge. Malikyar crossed the river over the log and thus was able to attain his wish. ئړﮐ نﺎﻧﺎﺟ ﯥﺋ بﻮﺳ ئد رﺎﯾ ﻪﻟ ﻪﺗﺎﭘ It is said that one day Malikyar was visiting his uncle Toukhay and saw his cousin Noor Baba, sharpening arrows. Malikyar asked him: دږوا ﻮﯾ ﮏﻧﺮﺗ ،ترﺪﻗ ﻪﺑ ﺪﻧوﺎﺧ د ،ﯥﻠﯾوو يرﺪﻨﺳ اد ﺎﺑﺎﺑ رﺎﯿﮑﻠﻣ ﻪﭼ :ﺎﮐ ﻞﻘﻧ "Cousin, what are you doing." The cousin replied: "I will be your ﺮﭘ ،ﻮﺳ ﺪﻨﺑ ﻲﮐ وﺰﻏ وا ﻮﻠﻧ ﻪﭘ ،يډﻨڅ ﯽﻠﺑ وا يډﻨڅ ېﻮﯾ د دور د ﻪﺘﻟد وا ،ړوار ﯽﮔﺮﻟ follower and helper in battles with the Mongols." Malikyar prayed for his 9 .ﻮﺳ ﻞﺻاو ﻪﺗ ﺪﺼﻘﻣ ﻞﭙﺧ وا ﻮﺳ ﺮﯧﺗ ﻞﭘ ېد ﺮﭘ ﺎﺑﺎﺑ رﺎﯿﮑﻠﻣ ،ﻮﺳ ړﻮﺟ ﻞﭘ ﻮﯾ ﮏﻧﺮﺗ success in his battle against the enemy. It is said that Nour Baba al- ways fought valiantly and no one remembers his defeat in any battle. هﺮﺗ ﻞﭙﺧ د وا ،ړﻻو ﻪﺗ رﻮﮐ ﻲﺧﻮﺗ هﺮﺗ ﻞﭙﺧ د ،ﺎﺑﺎﺑ رﺎﯿﮑﻠﻣ ځرو هﻮﯾ :ﻪﭼ ﺎﮐ ﻞﻘﻧ It is said that one day the Mongols attacked Syoray and there were ﻪڅ اد !هرﻮﺑﺮﺗ ﻪﭼ ﺎﮐو ﻪﻨﺘښﻮﭘ ﻲﻨځ رﺎﯿﮑﻠﻣ ،ﺎﮐ هﺮﯧﺗ ﯽﺸﻏ ﻪﭼ ﺪﯿﻟو ﯥﺋ ﺎﺑﺎﺑ رﻮﻧ یوز no men in Malikyar's fortress. When Noor Baba heard of the attack, he ﻪﭼ ،ﻪﺗرو هړﮐو ﺎﻋد ﺎﺑﺎﺑ رﺎﯿﮑﻠﻣ ،ﻢﯾ ړﺗﻼﻣ ﺎﺘﺳ ﻲﮐ وړﮕﺟ ﻪﭘ ﻮﻟﻮﻐﻣ د :ﻞﯾوو ﻪﻐﻫ ؟ېړﮐ immediately arrived at the fortress and fought the Mongols single وا ،ﺪﻧﻮﻣ یﺮﺑ ﻲﮐ هړﮕﺟ ﻪﭘ ﺎﺑﺎﺑ رﻮﻧ ﻪﺑ ﺖﻗو ﺮﻫ ﻪﭼ :ﻲﺋاو !ﯥﺳوا ﻦﻤﺑﻮﺳ ﻞﺗ !هرﻮﺑﺮﺗ handily. He drove them away from the fortress and killed a number of .هﺪﻧ دﺎﯾ ﻪﭘ ﺎﭽﯿﻫ د ﯥﺋ ﻪﺗﺎﻣ them.
