The Ownbey Cemetery lies West of the Troy Mills Road, (Highway H), about 1/12 Miles S.W. of Kirksville, Missouri. The
Old Section lies West of the road about 132 feet. It seems to have been the custom in those early days to have the burial
grounds back some distance from the roads. The new section, however, extends from the old part East to the road.
Friends ot the community say the land for the Cemetery was given by the Ownbey family, hence the name Ownbey Cemetery.
Records show the new part was plotted in 1919. However, there were some graves as early as 1911.
