While many people and groups play a role in the City’s success, the Overland Park Chamber of Commerce has been a key participant in building the community that so many businesses and people call “home.” I am humbled and honored to serve as Chairman of the Overland Park Chamber of Commerce in 2014 and will do everything possible to continue the tremendous success that the Chamber has experienced in the past. As your Chairman, I will work tirelessly with Chamber staff to earn the privilege you have provided to me and to make sure the successes we have seen over the last several years continue to grow. Since the economic downturn in 2008, the Chamber – through its partnership with the City and the Economic Development Council – has assisted in bringing more than 15,000 new jobs to Overland Park and retaining more than 9,000 jobs. These new and retained jobs amount to a capital investment of more than $733 million in our community over the past several years and is one of the reasons Overland Park was ranked #9 in Money magazine’s Top 10 “Best Places to Live” in 2012. It is successes like these that are the living testament to the Chamber’s mission – “to enhance the business environment and quality of life in our community.” Companies large and small continue to be attracted by the corporate environment and quality of life in Overland Park. The Chamber plays a vital role in this process. At the state and local levels, the Chamber advocates for public policy positions that are in the interests of the Overland Park and Johnson County business communities. The Chamber also works regionally and across state lines to promote growth in the entire area serviced by its members. In addition to advocacy and regionalism efforts, the Chamber provides a wide array of unique membership programs for its members to get involved in the community. I welcome and challenge each of you to take advantage of something the Chamber has to offer this year – attend a Chamber event, welcome a new member at a ribbon cutting, encourage your business colleagues to become Chamber members, voice your concerns to a board member, or attend a Government Affairs Committee meeting. Whatever you do, get involved! You can help the Chamber make a difference in our community and continue the tremendous successes we have seen. Thank you for your membership in the Overland Park Chamber of Commerce. Together we can continue to make Overland Park an even better place to live, work, and play.
