Starch Products Derived from Starch: Cyclodextrins OH HO O OHO O Cyclodextrins are naturally occurring cyclic oligosaccharides. Depending on the O HO HO OHO number of glucose units, they are described as alpha- (6 units), beta- (7 units) O OH HO OH and gamma- (8 units) cyclodextrins. HO Cyclodextrins are superior solubility enhancers for active ingredients which can O HO HO increase bioavailability and control the release of volatile substances. They can be O O HO OH used as process aid in fermentations and as solubilizer for cell culture media, too. O OH OH WACKER is the only global producer of all three native cyclodextrins, which are HO OHO OH OHO O marketed as CAVAMAX® products. We also offer chemically modified derivatives O HO under the CAVASOL® trademark. All our native cyclodextrins are produced from starch at our Eddyville plant in Iowa, USA. CAVAMAX® W6/W7/W8 CAVASOL® W7 M CAVASOL® W6 HP CAVASOL® W7 HP CAVASOL® W8 HP Glucose Products Derived from Glucose: L-Cystine and L-Cysteine L-Cystine and L-Cysteine are important agents in protein refolding (e.g. insulin). They are used as raw materials for API synthesis (e. g. expectorants) and as ingredients in cell culture media. Traditionally, they are of human or animal origin. WACKER is the first global company to produce L-Cystine in a patented process through fermentation in E.coli. Due to their fermentative origin, our amino acids are of the highest purity, TSE/BSE-free and certified as halal and kosher. 8 Acetone Products Derived from Acetone: Chlorinated Intermediates Acetone was a major pillar of WACKER’s portfolio in the first half of the 20th century. This tradition is resumed in our acetone-derived products. Our chlorinated acetones are broadly used in the pharmaceutical and agrochemical industries as C-3 building blocks for the synthesis of active ingredients. Acetic Acid Products Derived from Acetic Acid: Organic Acids, Esters and Diketones WACKER’s success was built on the production of acetic acid at the beginning of the 20th century. This legacy lives on in the products that are based on acetic acid. We offer a highly pure acetic acid grade for pharmaceutical and electronic applications. Our methyl acetate is used as solvent in the pharmaceutical, coatings and detergent industries. Chloroacetaldehyde and its acetal derivatives are highly functionalized C-2 building blocks for organic synthesis and find use in the pharmaceutical and agrochemical industries. Our ketene-derived products serve as building blocks in the synthesis of active ingredients and we are proud to be the only remaining Western producer of acetylacetone. Our acetylacetone is used in PVC stabilizers and as raw material in the synthesis of organic intermediates for the pharmaceutical and agrochemical industries. Calcium Acetylacetonate is widely used as a component in PVC stabilizers especially for PVC window frames and special cables. O O Ca O O Si and MeOH Products Derived from Silicon and Methanol: Silyl Building Blocks and Silylating Agents WACKER is an important producer of organosilanes. Our chlorosilanes find use as silylating agents, predominantly in carbohydrate and beta-lactam chemistry. Our C-8 or C-18 chlorosilanes are used for the production of reversed-phase chromatographic material.
