HistoryofCase2747 An application for the designation ofLeptaenaplanumbona Hall, 1847 as the type species ofStrophomenade Blainville, 1824was received from Dr L.R.M. Cocks (The NaturalHistoryMuseum,London, U.K.)on 10November 1989.Aftercorrespondence thecase was published in BZN47: 274-276 (December 1990). Notice ofthecase was senttoappropriatejournals. CommentsinsupportfromDrA.W.A. Rushton(British Geological Survey, Keyworth, Nottinghamshire, U.K.) and from Sir Alwyn Williams (TheUniversity,Glasgow, U.K.)werepublishedinBZN48: 54(March 1991).Afurther commentinsupportfromDrC.H.C. Brunton{TheNaturalHistoryMuseum,London, U.K.)wasnotedonthevotingpaper. In the application the names Strophomena and rugosa were attributed to de Blainville's Manuel de Malacologie of 1825 (see BZN 47: 274, para. 3) but it subsequentlybecameapparent(seebelow)thattheyhadpreviouslybeenpublishedin 1824. DecisionoftheCommission On 1 September 1991 the membersofthe Commission were invited to vote on the proposals published in BZN 47: 275-276. At the close of the voting period on 1 December 1991 thev—oteswereasfollows: Affirmative votes 26: Bayer, Bock, Cocks, Corliss, Dupuis, Hahn, Halvorsen, Heppell, Holthuis, Kabata, Kraus. Lehtinen, Macpherson, Mahnert, Martins de Souza, Minelli, Nielsen, Nye, Ride, Savage, Schuster, Starobogatov, Thompson, Trjapitzin,Ueno,Willink — Negativevotes none. 92 BulletinofZoologicalNomenclature49(1)March1992 NovotewasreceivedfromCogger. Heppell commented: 'The genera (including the new genera) included by de Blainville in his Manuel de Malacologie (1825) were also published by him in the alphabeticallyarrangedsequenceofthesecondeditionoftheDictionnairedesSciences Naturelles.ThispredatestheManuelatleastasfarasvolume32(November 1824),and so thegenericname Strophomenaand the specificname rugosa should bedated from their first publication on p. 302 ofthat volume, and not from 1825 as given in the application'.
