(2) The followingnamesareherebyplacedontheOfficial ListofSpecificNamesin Zoology: (a) pteneresForster, 1844,aspublishedinthebinomenAnaspteneres; (b) patachonkusKing, 1831,aspublishedinthebinomenMicroptemspatachonkus. (3) The name patachonica King, 1828, as published in the binomen Oidemia patachonica and as suppressed in (1) above, is hereby placed on the Official Index of Rejectedand InvalidSpecificNamesinZoology. HistoryofCase2673 An application for the conservation of the specific names of Micropterus patachonicus King, 1831 and Anas pteneres Forster, 1844 was received from Dr B.C. Livezey {Museum ofNatural History, University ofKansas, Lawrence, U.S.A.) on 25 July 1988. After correspondence the case was published in BZN 46: 181-184 (September 1989). Noticeofthecasewas sent to appropriatejournals. Nocomments werereceived. The suppression of the specific name of Oidemiapatachonica King, 1828 for the purposesofthePrincipleofPrioritybutnot forthose ofthePrincipleofHomonymy conserves the junior subjective synonym Anas pteneres Forster, 1844 (currently Tachyerespteneres). This suppression thereby prevents the specific namepatachonica King, 1828beingaseniorsecondaryhomonymofMicropteruspatachonicusKing, 183 when(asisthecase)bothtaxonomicspeciesconcernedareplacedin TachyeresOwen, 1875. DecisionoftheCommission On 1 September 1990 the members of the Commission were invited to vote on the proposals published in BZN 46: 182-183.
