(3) ThenameexcisusFabricius, 1801,aspublishedinthebinomen Curculioexcisus (senior subjective synonym of the specific name of Chlorophanusfallax Schonherr, 1823,thetypespeciesof^ChlorophanusSahlberg, 1823),isherebyplacedontheOfficial ListofSpecificNamesinZoology. (4) Thename ChlorimaGermar, 1817, as suppressedin(1)above, isherebyplaced ontheOfficialIndexofRejectedandInvalidGenericNamesinZoology. InJune 1987 DrM.A. Alonso-Zarazaga (Seccionde Entomologia, Museo Nacional de Ciencias Naturales, Madrid, Spain) by coincidence mentioned in a letter to the CommissionSecretarythatin 1984hehad 'resurrected' theseniorsynonym Chlorima Germar, 1817 and designated Curculio viridis Linnaeus, 1758 as the type species (Alonso-Zarazaga, 1984,p.284).TheCommissionSecretariatwasnotabletogetviews onthebestcourseofactionfromeitherDrSilfverbergorDrAlonso-Zarazagauntilin 1990DrSilfverbergagreedthattheapplicationshouldbesubmittedtotheCommission forvoting. The name Chlorophanus Sahlberg, 1823 has had wide usage, with Curculio excisus Fabricius, 1801 and C. viridisLinnaeus, 1758bothplacedinthegenus,whichincludes some50speciesoccurringthroughoutthePalaearcticregion.Giinther&Zumpt(1933; Coleopterorumcatalogus,part 131), astandardworkforthecurculionidae, usedthe nameChlorophanusandmentioned Chlorimaonlyasasynonym. Arecentpublication(Tempere&Pericart, 1989,pp.85-86,482)maintainedusageof Chlorophanusandnoted:'Alonso(1984: 284)aproposedesubstituerlenomChlorima Germar, 1817aunom ChlorophanusC.R. Sahlberg, 1823.
