We reserve the right to make changes at any time without notice. 6 ASSEMBLY INSTALLING THE CUTTING HEAD SHIELD Screw (x4) WARNING:To prevent serious personal injury, never Mount Bracket operate the unit without the cutting head shield in place. 1. Place the cutting head shield under the mount bracket (Fig. 1). Cutting Head Align the holes in the cutting head shield with the holes in the Hole (x4) Shield mount bracket (Fig. 1). 2. Insert the screws (x4) into the aligned holes (Fig. 1). Tighten the screws by hand until they are finger tight. 3. Tighten the screws with a #2 Phillips screwdriver until the cutting head shield is firmly in place. Tighten the screws equally. Fig. 1 INSTALLING AND ADJUSTING THE HANDLE Handle Installing the Handle 1. Push the handle down onto the upper shaft housing (Fig. 2). Make sure the bolt hole faces to the right (Fig. 2). Adjusting the Handle If the handle requires adjustment: 1. Loosen the bolt with a flat-head screwdriver (Fig. 2). 2. Hold the unit in the operating position (Fig. 14). Move the handle up or down the upper shaft housing to a comfortable location (Fig. 2). Make sure the handle is positioned beyond the end of the safety label (Fig. 2). 3. Tighten the bolt with a flat-head screwdriver until the handle is secure. 7 INSTALLING AND REMOVING THE ATTACHMENT The coupler enables the use of various optional attachments. WARNING:Before using any attachment, read and understand the manual that came with the attachment. Follow all safety information contained within. Remove the hanger cap from the attachment. Keep the hanger cap for use when storing the attachment. If present, remove the gray spacer from the coupler. 2. Set the unit on a flat, level surface. 3. Turn the knob counterclockwise to loosen the coupler (Fig. 3). Coupler Attachment 4. Push the attachment straight into the coupler (Fig. 4) until the release button snaps firmly into the primary hole (Fig. 5). 5. Turn the knob clockwise to tighten the coupler (Fig. 3). CAUTION:Before operating the unit, make sure the release button is fully snapped into the primary hole and the knob is securely tightened. CAUTION:Unless specified otherwise, the release button should be snapped into the primary hole only. Using the wrong hole could lead to personal injury or damage to Fig. 4 the unit. Release Button Fig. 5 8 SWAPPING THE CUTTING HEADS Bump Head WARNING:To avoid serious personal injury and Bump Head damage to the unit, shut the unit off before removing or installing a cutting head. Tab NOTE:The cutting head base will remain attached to the unit. Removing the Bump Head 1. Set the unit on a flat, level surface. Cutting Tab Slot 2. Disconnect the bump head from the cutting head base: Firmly Head Base press a tab on the bump head (Fig. 6). Use your thumb. If necessary, use a flat-head screwdriver: Fig. 6 a.Insert a flat-head screwdriver into the notch on the tab (Fig. 7). b.Gently tilt the screwdriver up and hold it in place (Fig. 7). c.While holding the screwdriver in place, gently twist the screwdriver to unlock the tab from the tab slot (Fig. 6). 3. Remove the bump head from the cutting head base. DO NOT disassemble or remove any other parts on the bump head or cutting head base. Installing the Aero-Flex® Head 1. Set the unit on a flat, level surface. 2. Install all four line blades. Refer to Replacing the Line Bladesin the Maintenancesection. Tab 3. Align the tabs on the cutting head cap with the tab slots on the Notch cutting head base (Fig. 8). Push the cutting head cap onto the cutting head base until both tabs snap into place. Fig. 7 Removing the Aero-Flex® Head 1. Set the unit on a flat, level surface. 2. Disconnect the cutting head cap from the cutting head base: Firmly press a tab on the cutting head cap (Fig. 8). Use your Aero-Flex® Head thumb. If necessary, use a flat-head screwdriver: a.Insert a flat-head screwdriver into the notch on the tab (Fig. 7). b.Gently tilt the screwdriver up and hold it in place (Fig. 7). c.While holding the screwdriver in place, gently twist the Cutting Head Tab screwdriver to unlock the tab from the tab slot (Fig. 8). Cap 3. Remove the cutting head cap from the cutting head base. DO NOTdisassemble or remove any other parts on the cutting head base. Cutting Head Installing the Bump Head Base Tab Slot 1. Set the unit on a flat, level surface. Fig. 8 2. If necessary, assemble the bump head: Insert the bump knob and inner reel into the spool cover (Fig. 9). Hold the two pieces together. 3. Align the tabs on the bump head with the tab slots on the cutting head base (Fig. 6). Push the bump head onto the cutting head base until both tabs snap into place. 4. If the trimming line is not loaded, load the trimming line. Refer to Replacing the Trimming Linein the Maintenancesection. If this is unavailable, use a 2-cycle oil designed for air-cooled engines and mix it with a fuel additive, such as STA-BIL Fuel Stabilizer or an equivalent. Add 0.8 oz. (23ml) of fuel additive per gallon of fuel, according to the instructions on the container. NEVER add fuel additives directly to the unit's fuel tank. Mixing the Fuel NOTE:This unit comes with a 3.2 oz. (95 ml) container of 2-cycle oil. To obtain the correct fuel mixture described below, pour the entire container into one gallon of unleaded gasoline. CAUTION:For proper engine operation and maximum reliability, pay strict attention to the gasoline and oil mixing instructions on the 2-cycle oil container. Using improperly mixed fuel can severely damage the engine. Thoroughly mix the proper ratio of unleaded gasoline with 2-cycle engine oil. Do not mix them directly in the unit’s fuel tank.
