(Photo by Stephen Muha) OPERATION DESERT SHIELD/STORM MARYLAND NATIONAL GUARD More than 800 Maryland National Guard soldiers and airmen were called up for Operation Desert Shield/Storm serving in the Persian Gulfand in the continental United States. In addition, numerous members ofthe Maryland National Guard volunteered and served during the conflict.
