In addition to work- ing, both juniors and seniors visited col- leges, while the freshmen were anticipat- ing their first day of high school. Despite all the "work" they had to do, students still had time to go on vacation, have fun at theme parks, attend concerts and sporting events, and frequent theJer- seyShore. When asked whathe regretted not doing over the summer, one student wished he hadn't stayed in Springfield as much as he did. There are a variety of activities teenag- ers can involve themselves with over the summer. Don'tletthehotmonthspass by because before you realize it, you'll be back at school. Seniors, juniors, sophomores, and freshman work long and hard to make decorations for the hallways, the pep rally, and spirit week as a whole. This year, there was fierce competition amongst all the grades to win first place for spirit week. On Thursday eft- night the carefully prepared decorations went up and on Friday the competition began. The freshman class chose a "Halloween" theme. They didn't know exactly r/ whattodo,buthadsomecutedecorations,whichincludedstreamersandposters. The sophomoreclasshadathemecalled "ForeverYoung" andusedlittlepictures of their classmates as babies or young children. They also made huge crayons, building ^ blocks, and decorated the hallwaywithpink and lightblue colors. Thejuniors had a very creative idea for hallway decorating: "Games." They made life-size replicas of Twister, MonopolyJunior, Guesswho, and Scrabble. Lastly, the seniors did a tribute totheSeptember11,2001WorldTradeCentertragedy. Theycreatedminitwintowers and signs naming all the street names in the city. ** Theseniorsandjuniorswere neck and neck in the competi- tion, but in the end, the juniors won first place. Junior Becky l Chambers explains, " I thought that the pep rallywas veryexcit- ing. There was a lot of competi- tionbetweenjuniorsandseniors. G/\| Right: Who needs a bullhorn?
