The Orissa G a z e t t e EXTRAORDINARY PUBLISHED BY AUTHORITY No. 69 CUTTACK, FRIDAY, JANUARY 27, 2006 / MAGHA 7, 1927 HEALTH & FAMILY WELFARE DEPARTMENT NOTIFICATION The 13th January 2006 No. 1006–ME.-I.-SCB.-8/2005-H.—The number of patients suffering from Liver related diseases like Variceal Bleed, Hepatic Encephalopathy, Chronic Hepatitis, Cirrhosis of liver and Liver Cancer in the State are increasing day by day and a separate department of Hepatology has become the crying need of the people of the State. Considering the ever increasing number of patients of Liver and Billiary diseases and with a view to providing better treatment to the patients by specialised doctors, a separate unit of Hepatology was established in S. C. B. Medical College, Cuttack, a Premier Medical Institution of the State vide Health & F. W. Department G. O. No. 2982-H., dated the 20th August 2003. In a span of three years, patient’s outturn to the newly established Hepatology Unit has remarkably increased. Taking this aspect into account, Government has been contemplating for quite sometime past to convert the Unit to a full-fledged separate Department to provide better and cost effective service to the people of the State. Medical Council of India has also accorded clearance to have this Department to meet the need of the people. Government, after careful consideration, have been pleased to create a separate Department of Hepatology in S. C. B. Medical College & Hospital, Cuttack with the following terms & conditions, (i) The Department of Hepatology will be functional with one Professor, one Assistant Prof. and one Lecturer and other Paramedical staff by way of redeployment from mother Department of Medicine. (ii) There shall be no additional financial implication for creation of any teaching or non-teaching post for the Department. (iii) One post of Assistant Professor, Medicine of SCB Medical College, Cuttack will be abolished and in lieu of one post of Assistant Prof., Hepatology will be created in the new born Department of Hepatology. 2 (iv) Dr. Umesh Chandra Patra, Assistant Prof., Medicine designated as Assistant Prof., Hepatology will continue to function in the newly created Department of Hepatology against the above post. (v) Professor and HOD of Medicine shall remain in charge of this Department for smooth functioning and effective supervision. This has been concurred in by F. D. in their UOR No. 383—SS.-I., dated the 31st March 2005. ORDER— Ordered that this notification shall be published in an extraordinary issue of Orissa Gazette and copies thereof be supplied to all Departments/all Heads of Departments/all Collectors.
