Therehasbeengreatconcernaboutthedeclineofpollinatorinsectpopulationsaround the world, particularly in North America and Europe. This problem affects all ecosys- temsandisaparticularlyseriousconcernforfarmers,sincealargeproportion(morethan seventy percent) of farmed plants require insect pollination to produce a crop. Many of these crops depend predominantly on domesticated honey bees which live in hives that are brought in when the crops are flowering; but native insects also are very important pollinatorsaswell.
