Platycerushongwonpyoi IMURAetCHoE(1989,p.20) isoneoftherepresentative speciesofplatycerinelucanidbeetlesoccurringinEastAsia,whichisratherwidelybut sporadicallydistributedfromtheKoreanPeninsulatoCentralChina. Thenominotypi- ca1subspecieswasdescribed fromtheChiri-sanMountainslyinginthesouthernmost part of the Korean Peninsula and is rather widely distributed in South Korea (WATANABE, l989; IMURA,1993). ThepopulationdistributedfromNorth Koreato northeasternChinaisrepresentedbysubsp merkli (IMURA&CHoE,1989,p 21; LI, 1997, p 43; IMuRA, 2006b, p 24). Thespecies isalsoknown fromthecentraland northern partsof Chinaand thepopulation distributed in thoseareais classified into foursubspecies. Thus, totallysixsubspecieshavebeendescribeduptothepresentas listedbelow: 1) Subsp hongwonpyoiIMURAetCHoE(1989,p20;typelocality:Mt.Chiri-san, Kyongsangnam-do, Korea;seealsoIMURA, l993&2006b) 2) SubspmerkliIMURAetCHoE(1989,p21;typelocality:Mt.Kumgang-san - Mt.Manmu1-san,Kangwon-do,Korea;seealsoIMURA,1993&2006b) 3) Subsp qlnlingensisIMuRA(1993,p. 12; typelocality:QinlingMountainsof southernShaanxi;seealsoIMURA, l994&2006a,b). 4) Subsp dabashanensisOKuDA(l997,p.12; typelocality:DabaShanMoun- tainsonthebordersbetweenChongqingShiandShaanxi;seealsoIMuRA,2006b). 5) Subsp. funiuensisIMuRA(2005,p 498; typelocality:Fu'niuShanMountains ofwesternHenan;seealsoIMURA,2006b) 294 Yuki IMし'RAand WANXia 6) Subsp mongolicusIMURAetBARToLozzI(2006,p.136;typelocality: Daqing ShanMountainsofNeiMongolZizhiqu,NorthChina;seealsoIMuRA,2006b). Recently,wehadanopportunitytoexaminetwooldlucanidspecimensbelonging tothegenusPlatyceruspreservedin thecollectionof theInstituteof Zoology, CAS (ChineseAcademyofSciences) inBeijing. Oneofthetwo,amalecollectednearly60 yearsago fromMt. TianmuShanofnorthernZhejiangin EastChina, isspecifically identicalwithP hongwonpyoi, thoughdifferentindetailsfromalltheknownlocalraces ofthesamespecies. Itwillthereforeberecordedanddescribedinthispaperasanew andseventhsubspeciesunderthenameoftlanmushanusnov. Astotheotherspecimen, afemaleobtainedfromMt.EmeiShanofCentralSichuan,wearegoingtorecordor describeitinanotherpaper tobepreparedinthenear future,sinceitdoesnotbelongto P hongv1lonpyoibutisapparentlyreferabletoanotherspeciesbelongingtothegroupof P delicatulus. Platycerushongwonpyoi tianmushanusIMURAetWAN,subsp nov (Figs.1-5,7) Length(includingmandibles): f,10.8mm. M ale. Morphologically, thisnewsubspeciesseemstobemostcloselyalliedto subsp dabashanensis, butdiffersfromthat raceinthefollowingrespects:1)coloration different,thatofdorsalsurfacelessstronglyyellowishbutdarkgreenishbearingafaint bluishtinge,andsterniteVIIandlateralportionsofsternitesVI-IValittlelighter;2) pronotumlesstransverse,1.58timesaswideaslongintheholotypespecimen,withthe lateralsideslessacutelynarrowedtowardsapex,anddisca1puncturesalittlesmallerin size;3)elytraalittlerobuster,1.47timesaslongaswideintheholotypespecimen,with thediscmoresparselyandweaklypunctate,andthecentralportionlesscoarselyand moreweaklyrugu1ose;4)aedeaguswithavisor-likeprotuberanceontherightsidemore stronglybent inwards. From subspp qlr11ingensisand funiuerisis, thenewsubspeciesisdiscriminatedas follows: 1) colorationof dorsal surfacea littlemorebluish;2) abdominal sternites darkerthaninqinlingensis, thoughalmostsimilarincolorationtothatoffunluensis;3) mandibleslonger,withtheoutermarginslessroundlyarcuateandmoreacutelyhooked inwardsnear apices;4) pronotumwith front angles lesssharplypointedat thetips, lateral sides lessstronglyconvergent towardsapex, anddisca1puncturesapparently smallerinsize;5)centralportionofelytramuchlesscoarselyrugu1ose;6)aedeaguswith avisor-likeprotuberanceontherightsidemorestronglybentinwards. Thenewracediffers from thenominotypica1subspeciesandsubsp merkli in the PlatycerushongwonpyotfromMt.TianmuShan 295 、 , 2 Figs.1-5. Fromsubspmongolicus, thisnewsubspeciesisreadilydistinguishablebymuchless stronglybluishdorsalsurface,.lightercolorationofsterniteVII,muchdarkercoloration of protibia, differentlyshapedmandiblesand elytraandmuch less coarsely rugu1ose central portion ofelytra, aswell aslargerandmorestronglybent visor-likeprotuber- ancesonbothsidesofaedeagus.
