How would you use such knowledge in your life today to bring about tangible benefits? The short answer is to use them like private phone calling cards to attract immense spiritual power into your life. What this book will give you that no other English book has given you before is the precise numbers to dial. Let me explain... As far as secular science is concerned, magic squares are nothing more than mathematical curiosity. They just are with no deeper meaning or cosmic aim. They are patterns that occur and serve no purpose besides stimulating our minds with their simplicity and ingenuity. Kind of like an ancient form of Sudoku. Those who adhere to an esoteric belief system rooted in antiquity believe otherwise. Ancient sages influenced by the teachings of the like of Pythagoras of Samos believed that numbers and geometry hold within them the keys to nature. They are expressions of a Divine mind, a Universal Architect or Geometer. Numbers contain deep mystical meanings and powers that we can awaken and reawaken. In this cosmic view, magic squares are numerical illustrations of deep cosmic principles. They are magnets to spiritual forces. You will fi nd magic squares part of any serious book on talismanic magic dating back centuries. Most of those books will give you the same patterned squares and often no more than seven. There is only one problem with this. If that is all you have, then you have a phone without a number to dial. The basic patterns are powerful in their own right, but using them is more like dialing an operator without having a party in mind. This is what makes this book so unique. You now have specific numbers and extensions to enable you to connect with more than one hundred and sixty distinct spiritual beings that rule over the astrological tides. By using these magic squares in magical rituals, you can enlist the aid of these beings to help you along your spiritual evolution. For example: i Occult €ticydope5u of CDagic Squares • You do not have to be at the mercy of bad communications when Mercury goes retrograde. This could mean the difference between keeping your job and losing it. • You can overcome difficulties in finding stable relationships due to afflictions of Saturn in the seventh house. • You can improve your own intuitive connections or even strengthen any latent psychic powers. • Your strengthened spiritual connections with angelic beings will guide you and open you to higher states of spiritual well being and inner peace. I do not expect you to take my word for it. Just consider this: If I am right, can we agree on the tremendous potential available? I hope so. I hope you benefit from this gift and it becomes a valuable asset in your spiritual kit. I have a confession to make before we go on. I did not set out to write this book as a practical workbook filled with magical formulas. I know there is a drought of books on the practical applications of magic squares. I intend for the practical magic aspect to be a book in its own right. What I did set out to do in this series, was to create a sourcebook for practitioners of the sacred magical arts, kabbalists, Hermetics and scholars of the mysteries. What you are holding in your hands is an occult encyclopedia in the true sense. It contains exhaustive magic square listings filled with all the association, aspects, correspondence you may need in your cosmic connections. In this first volume, I have focused on the angels and spirits of the planets and Zodiacalsigns.I am familiar withmorethanone classical system ofcorrespondences. For this book, I have chosen to use the one familiar to the students of the Golden Dawn system and its offshoots, due to its widespread familiarity in modern occult circles. I hope to provide the same treatment for classical systems rooted in Arabic and Hebrew grimoires in the next volumes. Enjoy... U QUICK GUIDE TO M A G IC SQUARES amea is the word most commonly used in Western occult circles to refer to magic squares. It is a Hebrew word, which means talisman or amulet. The Arabic word used to describe magic squares is al-Wifeq, which carries a similar meaning. The typical magic square consists of a grid that forms at minimum three columns and three rows for a total of nine cell squares. The values in those cell squares, if added vertically, horizontally, or diagonally, must match for it to be a correct magic square. There are four main types of magic squares: • NUMERICAL: consists only of a sequence of numbers • ALPHABETICAL NUMERICAL: consists of digits represented by their equivalent letters ALPHABETICAL: consists only of letters and of different type than alphabetical numerical • ALPHANUMERICAL: combines both numbers and letters. Each of the aforementioned variations of magic squares has its own application in magic. Numbers are to letters as souls are to bodies. Numerical and alphabetical numerical magic squares are effective for evoking the corresponding force in the material world. Numerical, alphabetical, and alphanumerical squares are very useful when working with angelic or celestial beings. We will be focusing on the numerical, alphabetical, and alphanumerical squares in this book, since we are working with angelic and spiritual forces. Here is an example of both basic numerical and alphabetical numerical magic squares: iii Occult encyclopedia of CDagic Squares Q a 1 4 9 2 n J 3 5 7 rr a 1 8 1 6 In this example, the Hebrew letters on the right have the same numerological values as their corresponding cell squares on the left. By addition of numbers, you can see that each column, row, and diagonal direction adds up to fifteen. 15 15 15 15 15 4 9 2 15 3 5 7 15 8 1 6 15 The same is true if we replace the letters with their corresponding numerological range values. In the Hebrew alphabet, the first letter or Aleph (S) has the value of one, as it is the first letter of the alphabet just like one is the first number. The second letter has value of two and so forth. Once you reach the eleventh letter, the values progress in units of ten and then hundreds. The first nine letters of the Hebrew alphabet correspond to the nine numerical digits. 15 15 15 15 15 1(4) 13(9) 3(2) 15 3(3) n (5) V7) 15 n(8) Kft) 1(6) 15 iv Quick Gutte Co CDagic Squares Hebrew Letter Large Range Values K 1 2 2 3 1 4 n 5 6 ^ 7 n 8 9 10 2 20 30 & 40 1 50 D 60 * 70 £ 80 * 90 P 100 200 BT 300 n 400 Occult €ncyclopedu of CDagic Squares GENERAL AND SPECIFIC SQUARES Imagine for a moment that you have managed to gain entry into one of the established occult lodges in the West. You are sitting across from a figure with the title of an adept. You go on politely about wanting to create a talisman for the intelligence of Saturn, Agial, and searching for a magic square most suited for the job. I am betting you will end up with the following square as that adept's recommendation: 4 9 2 3 5 7 8 1 6 You ask again about the proper square to use for the spirit of Saturn, Arathron. I would bet on the following square as the answer that you would receive: 4 9 2 3 5 7 8 1 6 You will most likely get the same answer repeatedly, as long as you keep asking about anything remotely associated with Saturn. Many modern Western mystery schools provide their initiates with only seven squares. These are widely familiar due to their association with the seven classical planets used in occultism. Now, let us take a trip back in a time machine and sit down with a classical wizard of the ancient world. You ask politely about the creation of a talisman for the intelligence of Saturn, Agial. I believe you would get the following square as being most suited for the job: 14 19 12 13 15 17 18 11 16 viii
