InJapan, this obriinespecieswasfirstlyillustratedbyKUsAMAandTAKAKUwA(1984)intheiriconographica1 bookasanundeterminedObriumspeciesonthebasisof thespecimenscollected fromeastern Hokkaido. Afterthat,NIlsATo(1991)gaveitstruename0.brevicornefortheObriuminquestion. Inthesummerof2006, HoRIGucHlcollectedapeculiarObriumspecimenbylight inthe drainageof theJinryu-gawaRiverofUeno-muraVillageofGunmaPrefecture. He had no interestinthatObriumaftercollecting,andbelievedthatitwasalargespecimenofthecommon Obrium, 0.obscuripennetakakuwa1. Becauesofsuchcircumstances, theObriumspeciesin questionwasbroughttoN1lsAToforidentificationmorethanfourmonthsafterHORIGUCHI's discovery. Surprisingly,hisObriumspecimeninquestionwasexactly0. brevicornewhichhad never been found from Honshu. In earlyDecemberof thesameyear,werevisitedUeno-muraVillagetogether withour friendsinentomologyforcollectingadditionalspecimens. Itseemstobeeasyforcollectingthe larvae of 0. brevicorne since manyadultsemergedout from the host branches of Fraxinus mandshuricavar.JaponicainHokkaido. Weexaminedthehostplantalongthevalleyofthe Jinryu-gawaRiverinafullearlywinterday. However,oureffortwasnotrepaid. Wefoundno larvaeofanyObrium,neither inthebranchesnor thetreeofF mandshurlca which wasalso expectedasthemainhost of 0. brevicorneinHonshu. ThecollectingrecordofHoRGIUcHl'sspecimenisasfollows:1早,Narahara,Ueno-mura Viii.,GunmaPref.,Honshu,Japan,26-VII-2006,T.HoRIGucH11eg.Specimencameflyingon thescreenof light trapatabout21:00.
