Out of these large number of students only a small percentage of the aspirants get into reputed institutions in their home state. Because of the poor facilities and financial problems, these students are not able to avail of the opportunities of joining best coaching centres and get the benefit. Most of them procure one or two books or guides in each subject and prepare mostly on their own. Finally they join professional colleges functioning in their respective states. This book is written mainly to help such students to get into the best institutions in their home state. The authors are very clear in cautioning the aspirants that this book alone may not help them. This is mainly a preliminary book. Additional textbooks may also be used for the said purpose. This guide along with other standard books will help the said category of students to succeed and enter into a good professional college. This book contains objective type questions with keys in many vital areas of this branch of physical sciences. A good number of problems with solutions have been added in every chapter. About thousand questions with answers have been treated in this volume. vii viii The authors hopefully believe that this book may to some extent help students taking N.I.T. (National Institute of Technology) Entrance Examination and also the Entrance Examination for central quota of medical seats in state owned medical institutions. —Dr. S.O.
