EuMA is the organisation ago. Amsterdam is an attractive and lively city, with a rich cultural behind the Week, our mission is to promote microwaves in Europe heritage and many touristic opportunities. Beyond this, it offers and to foster networking between microwave scientists and excellent flight connections to the majority of the European engineers in Europe. The European Microwave Week is the key countries, and the RAI conference centre can be easily reached event serving this purpose. from Schiphol airport. For those who do not know EuMA so far: We are open to membership The Week is intended to be both a scientific event and a forum for all working in the field of microwaves, particularly from Europe, for microwave researchers and practitioners. We hope you will but also from around the world. The General Assembly, the highest not only get inspiring ideas from presentations and posters but governing body of the Association, gathers representatives from also find enough time to meet with colleagues and friends. Meet European countries, from North America, from the Asia-Pacific the European microwave community, join us and see you in region, and from North Africa and Middle East. If you are not a Amsterdam! EuMA member yet, I encourage you to join. Among other benefits, such as reduced fees for attending the EuMW and other EuMA- sponsored conferences, you will have access to our website which provides an archive of publications and the on-line version of the International Journal on Microwave and Wireless Technologies as well as networking opportunities. The European Microwave Week (EuMW) has evolved into the premier microwave conference and exhibition event in Europe. The centrepiece of the Week is the European Microwave Conference (EuMC), the largest of the 3 conferences that form the Week. It is complemented by the European Microwave Integrated Circuits Conference (EuMIC) focusing on semiconductor device and circuit technologies, and the European Radar Conference (EuRAD), targeting the field of radar, from components to applications. The success of EuMW is also a result of the collaboration with the IEEE MTT Society (technical co-sponsor of the Week) and the GAAS Association (co-sponsor of EuMIC). But the Week is not only Wolfgang Heinrich conferences, the Exhibition forms an integral part of EuMW, which President attracts a major part of the visitors and is organized by our long- European Microwave Association standing partner Horizon House. Preparing and hosting the EuMW is a major effort, from the paper submission and review to the on-site organization in the conference centre, and this is accomplished by a team of volunteers year by year. Therefore, my special and sincere thanks go to Bertram Arbesser-Rastburg, 2012 General Chair, to Bart Nauwelaers, EuMC Chair, to Frank van Vliet, EuMIC Chair, and to Willem Hol, EuRAD Chair - just to name a few on behalf the entire team. They all have been working hard to set up an outstanding technical and scientific program for you and to make your stay in Amsterdam exciting and enjoyable. Thank you! The theme this year is "Space for Microwaves". This indicates that there will be ample space for microwave subjects during the Week, which goes without saying. But this will also include "microwaves for space". Because of the close links to the European Space Agency, with ESA/ESTEC located not far away, an emphasis will be put on space applications. www.eumweek.com 7 WELCOME MESSAGES Welcome to the 42nd EuMC It is our great pleasure to welcome you to the 42nd European Both for the opening and closing sessions we invite you to enjoy a Microwave Conference (EuMC), taking place in the Amsterdam technical overview talk by a star in the field, in conjunction with a RAI in the Netherlands. We are so typical for the EuMC: passive components, filters, interconnects, also very grateful to those who have put a lot of effort in reviewing metamaterials and EBGs, packaging, antennas, phased arrays, and selecting the papers, and to those who devoted a weekend to reconfigurable antennas, power amplifiers, field theory, EMI composing the final programme during the TPC.
