Abstract NinespeciesofthegenusCa,abusarerecordedfromMt.Miao'orShan
innortheasternGuangxiofSouthChina.withdescriptionsofdetailedstructureofthemale
genitalorganandsometaxonomicalnotes.Threetaxa、co,・ditho,acicus,p1/110s・cius、and
ad,・1aenssensl,aredowngradedtosubspeciesofpreviouslyknownspecies.
Mt.Miao'orShan,situatedatthenortheasternpartofGuangxiProvincenearthe
Hunanborders,isthehighestmountaininthesouthernpartoftheChineseContinent,
attaining toaheightof2,142m.It isoneofthemost importantnatureprotectiveareas
in thesameprovince, andagoodnatural forest ispreservedparticularlyat theupper
partof themountain. However,nothingwasknownabout thecarabid faunaof this
mountainrangeuntil recent years. It isDEuvE(l989,pp.160-l61) who firstrecorded
thespeciesbelonging tothegenusCalabusoccurringonthismountain;hedescribed
twonewspeciesunder thenamesCa,・abus(fipotomopte,・us)guangxlcusandC. (A)
toulgoetl on thebasisofthespecimenspreserved in thecollection oftheAcademia
SinicainBeijing.Twootherimportantpapersonthecarabid faunaofthesamemoun-
tain rangeweresubsequently published, first by LAssALLEandPRUNIER(1993) and
thenbyCAvAzzUTl (1995), in which theyadded tenmore taxa, includingsix “new
species”,tothecarabidfaunaofthemountain.Thus,Miao'erShanisnowknowntobe
theplacewhosecarabid faunahasbeenmostsatisfactorilyinvestigated inChina.It is
worthnotingthatthemountainisaboveallabundantinthemembersofthesubgenus
Apotomoptertis;asmuchasninespeciesbelongingtothissubgenusoccurnearlysym-
patricallyonthesamerange.
Lateinthespringof1996, Ihadanopportunityofinvestigatingthecarabidbee-
tlesofMt.Miao'erShanmainlyattheupperpartofthemountain,asoneofthemem-
bersofthe1996expeditionoftheSine-Japanesecooperativestudyonthesoil faunaof
SouthwestChina.Ihavesucceededinobtainingnineoftwelvehithertoknownspecies
belonging tothegenusCa,abus(s lat). Herewith I givealist ofthesespecies, with
descriptionsmainlyofdetailedstructureofthemalegenitaliaandsomenotesontheir
taxonomicstatusordistribution,etc.Somespecimenswereimmediatelykilledin95%
ethanol and transmitted for extraction of the mitochondrial DNA. The results will be
reportedinmyotherarticletobepreparedincooperationwith thestaffoftheBiohis-

Malegenitalia. Aedeagusnot soremarkably specialized inshape, with the
apical portionsubtriangular, graduallybent ventradandrather sharply pointedatthe
tip.Endophalluswithasmallhump-likemembraneousprojectionattheplacefor the
medianlobe, thoughitisuncertainwhether theformer ishomologouswiththelatter.
Spinulaelongateand triangular inshape indorsal view, and gently sinuate towards

Notes. Although CAvAzzUTI (l995, p 35) described phi1oscius as a distinct
species,the fundamentalstructureofthemalegenitalorganofthistaxon isevidently
thesameasthatofCH,umlngenslsDEuvEasshowninFigs 3and4(genitalorganof
DEUvE'sspeciesisalsofigured for thefirsttimeinthispaper).The former istherefore
regardedasamerelocal raceofthelatterspecies.Subsp.p;1i1osciusisdiscriminated
fromsubsp.wtMlingenslsinthefollowingrespects:dorsalsurfacenottingedwithpur-
ple-bluishcolourbutentirelyblackish,andalittlematter;hindanglesofpronotuma
littlemoresharplypointed;primary foveolesofelytraalittlesmaller;secondaryand

(1994,p 69).Theformerisdistinguishedfromthelatterbythefollowingcharacteris-
tics:sizemuchlarger;dorsalcolouralittlemoredarkbluish;mediantoothofmentum
narrowerandmoresharplypointed;hindanglesofpronotummorestronglyprotruded
posteriad;elytralongerandslenderer;primaryintervalsmuchwidertoformrowsof
roundlyshapedlargetubercles;tertiarycostaealmostvestigial;spinulamorenarrowly
contractedtowardsapex,withthetipmoresharplypointed.0fthetotalelevenmales
examined,seven(64%)werenormal inpositionoftheaedeagus,whereastheremain-
ing four(36%)showed inversionofthesameorganasshowninFig 6.

berclesandthetertiaryintervalsarealmostvestigial,andtheyseemtobethemostno-
ticeablesubspecificcharacters,whicharesharedwithsubsp hecto'' BREuNING from
Hunanprovince.Thereislittledoubtthatthesetwotaxaareverycloselyalliedtoeach
other,andtheformermayberegardedasasynonymofthelatter,asDEuVE(1994)did
so.However, Iprefertotreatarrogantlo, asadistinctsubspeciesofC art'owl,since
nothinghasbeenknownaboutthemaleofsubsp hector.SofarasIhaveexamine all
the19malespecimensdidnotshowinversionoftheaedeagus,aphenomenonwhichis

Notes. Boththeexternalandgenitalicmorphologiesofthistaxonreveal thatit
shouldberegardedasamerelocalraceofC.pustulifeerLucAs,thoughitisworthnot-
jngthatthebasalthreesegmentsofthemaleforetarsusaredilatedandhairyinthepres-
entsubspecies.Thischaracterisveryuniqueforthespecies,sinceallthesegmentsof
themaleforetarsusareneitherdilatednorhairyinmostsubspeciesofC.puslulifetr,ex-
cept forsubsp mirficusKRAATzofHubeiProvincewhosemale foretarsusisdilated
andhairyinthebasaltwosegments.

井村有希:中国广西省苗儿山のオサムシ. - 苗儿山Male'erShanは中国广西省の北束端に
位置し, 同省の重要な自然保護区のひとつで, 中腹より上には豊かな原生林が残されている.
この山のオサムシに関しては, 1989年以後の7年間に, フランスやイタリアの研究者による報
告があい次ぎ, 今では中国のなかでもオサムシ相のもっともよく知られた山のひとつになって
いる.本論文では, 1996年5月下旬に同山において行われた中日共同学術調査によって得られ
た9種のオサムシをリストアップしたうえで, 7種の(f交尾器を詳細に図示, 再記載し, あわ
せて若干の分類学的位置や分布に関する知見を与えた. このうち, みっつの分類単位に関して
は, 主として 交尾器の基本形態に基づき, 独立種から既知種の亜種へと降格した.
