Please do this with your family. Have a Great Week! Greg Crachiolo, Parish Catechetical Leader Hearing the Word: Matthew 5:13-16 In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. Jesus said to his disciples: “You are the salt of the earth. But if salt loses its taste, with what can it be seasoned? It is no longer good for anything but to be thrown out and trampled underfoot. You are the light of the world. A city set on a mountain cannot be hidden. Nor do they light a lamp and then put it under a bushel basket; it is set on a lampstand, where it gives light to all in the house. Just so, your light must shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your heavenly Father.” (cid:1) REFLECTING ON THE WORD Through the use of metaphors, Jesus continues to teach his closest followers. If salt loses its taste, it can’t be good for seasoning; if disciples are not worthy followers of Jesus, they can’t influence other followers. Considering Jesus’ metaphor of being “light,” the disciples were being told that they should shine forth as examples in the way that they live and how they treat other people. Jesus’ teaching must have challenged his disciples.
