PREFACE
The puhlication of this facsimile edition of the manuscripts
of the late Srinivasa Ramanujan, in two volumes, has heen
made possihle hy the co-operative effort of three institutions :
the University of Madras, the Tata Institute of Fundamental
Research, and the Sir Dorahji Tata Trust. The suggestion
to bring out this puhlication was made hy Professor
K. Chandrasekharan to Dr. H. J. Bhahha, Director of the Tata
Institute of Fundamental Research, who got in touch with
Dr. A. L. Mudaliar, Vice-Chancellor of the University of Madras,
and Professor R. Choksi, Managing Trustee of the Sir Dorahji
Tata Trust. The manuscripts were readily made availahle
hy the University, and the funds hy the Trust. Professor
Chandrasekharan has heen in charge of the arrangements for
the compilation, production, and distrihution of the edition.
Mr. S. Ramu and Mr. R. Suhhu ofthe Commercial Printing Press
have done the difficult work of reproducing the manuscripts.
The entire cost of this publication
has been met by the Trustees
of the Sir Dorabji Tata Trust.
