Each yearapproximately 10,000individuals study atNorthern Essex eitherfull-orpart-time. We have ateaching facultywhoconcentrate theireducation, experience and effortin theclassroom. When youreducation iscompleted,youwillhave theskills needed tojoin the thousandsofNorthern Essex graduates who have transferred successfully to baccalaureateprograms, orwho havebecome apartofthehighly skilled business, industrial and professional workforceforwhichNew Englandis famous. You will be able to study atNorthernEssex atanextremely lowcost.The average full-time studentresiding in Massachusetts spends approximately$828 asemesterfortuition andfees excluding insurance. Part-time studyiscomparablyinexpensive. Anumberoffinancial aid sources are available toeligiblestudentsand we arecommittedtohelping youfind awayto affordNorthernEssex. Northern Essex is apublic, two-yearcollege whichofferscomprehensiveprogramsofstudy leading to the Associatein Artsdegree, theAssociate in Sciencedegreeand Certificatesof programcompletion. Extensioncampuses arelocatedinAndoverattheGreaterLawrence Technical School, HaverhillattheWhittierRegionalVocationalTechnicalHighSchool, Methuen atthe MethuenComprehensiveGrammarSchool, NewburyportatNewburyportHigh School, andReading atReadingMemorial HighSchool. Student Body Approximately 10,000students arecurrentlyenrolled atNorthernEssex. Aboutone thirdof these students areenrolledeachsemesterinthecollege’sdaydivision. Theothertwo thirds registereach semesterinContinuing EducationServices. Approximately 2000individuals registerforcourses in both theday andeveningdivisions. Ourstudentbodyis acomplex group. Manycomeheredirectly afterhighschool, oftenfromthe top 15%oftheirclass. Others bring avarietyofliving andjobexperiences totheirstudies. The average ageofourstudentsranges from22in thedaydivision to approximately 28 inContinu- ingEducation Services. Some are taking traditionalcollegeprograms,planning to transferto afour-yearinstitution after graduation. Someareenrolledin associatedegreeorcertificate programsleadingtoimmediate employmentinspecializedcareerfields. Some aretakingremedial anddevelopmentalcourses to upgrade theiracademicbackgrounds whilepursuing adegreeprogram. Others are taking individualcourses, exploring alternativesbeforemakingmoreformalacademicdecisions. Some students takespecialinterestcoursesonly. Largenumbersofstudents areenrolledin nontradi- tionalprogramsofstudysuch as English as asecondlanguagecourses, andcertain training programs in special skills andhigh technology areas aredesigned to fittheuniquetraining needsofindividual groupsofstudentsorparticularemployers.
