From large to small each of the 105 quilts displayed were unique, creative and notable. Faye Anderson won the Viewer’s Choice with her “Framed Flowers” quilt seen in Island Clippings issue 1103 and included in this week’s photos. Faye is a long time quilter and even had quilts in our first show 29 years ago. She also won a quilt show challenge a few years back. Second place was “Nestled at the Lodge” owned by Judith Beduhn and machine quilted by Shawna Deplonty of Aba Daba Quilts & Long Arm Quilting. This quilt was a special gift for her husband. Third place was“ Nogard a.k.a. Noggy” (the dragon) by Nancy Sachro of the Stitches From the Heart Quilt Guild in the Sault. Carey Sauve of the Sault won the Whitetail Woods Copper Spoon Gift Pack. The other gift certifi- cates from our generous island businesses follows: Moose Sweats gift certificate won by Linda Smith of Thessalon; Island Market gift certificate won by Bob Allen of Richards Landing and Camille’s Island Cafe gift certificate won by Faye Anderson. Thanks to the Demonstrators we had over the three days. Riley Broks, Deborah Missere, Anna Hamilton, Norah McGuire, Carol Sawchyn and Janet Johnson. Our Vendors were Life’s A Stitch from Sault Ste. Marie, Creative Basket from Thessalon, Sew Little Time from Cambridge and Black Tulip Designs from Southern Ontario. All benefited from the captive audience our visitors were made up of…which of course were Quilters! Special thanks to Life’s A Stitch for allowing quilts to be dropped off and picked up at their store in the Sault. Last but not least a HUMONGOUS THANK YOU to all the volunteers and their family and friends who made the show possible. One quilter recruited her husband, daughter, grand-daughter and even her visitors from Germany. Most of the St. Joseph Island Community Quilters and Women’s Institute members did 2 or more shifts to make the show happen this year. We could not do the show with- out each and everyone of you. Kudos to Jeff, the Custodian at the St. Joseph Island Central School. Next year’s show will be our 30th Anniversary and he may be booking his holidays for August 3, 4 & 5, 2018. Thanks for putting up with us this year and we do hope you will be on duty next year too. Add 2 dried bay leaves, fresh parsley stems, and whole peppercorns to flavor the cooking liquid if desired, then bring to a boil over high heat. When the water comes to a boil, cover the pot with a lid and reduce the heat to low. Simmer the chicken for 10-15 minutes, or until the internal temperature of the thickest part of the breast reads 165. Using tongs, remove the chicken and reserve on a plate. When it is cool enough to touch, shred it and set aside. Preheat the oven to 350° F and lay out 2 baking sheets. Spray one side of each tortilla with nonstick cooking spray and lay that side down (2 on each baking sheet). Fill one side of each tortilla evenly with all of the filling ingredients, starting and ending with the mozzarella cheese and fold over onto itself, to make a half circle shape. Bake for 8-10 minutes until filling is heated through and the tortilla is slightly crisp. Slice each tortilla in half, making 2 triangles so it is easier to eat. Serve with optional additional Greek yogurt dressing for dipping as desired. Page 10
