It is with even greater difficulty that I will have to say good-bye to my mentor, colleague, and friend. Mr. Humphreys has made an indelible mark in the hearts and minds of so many. I do not think he realizes how truly special he is. Sporting his old flannel shirt, highlighter-stained pants and Baltimore Orioles tie, this classroom teacher possesses a natural gift for connecting with his students and getting even the most reluctant learner to engage. He effortlessly communicates his volumes of knowledge in a way that is inviting instead of intimidating. He encourages students to ask questions and to make connections between the past and present. His passion for learning is infectious and his humor unforgettable. With regard to many events in history he would remind us, “If you are confused- you should be! If it is starting to make sense then we should be worried.” Mr. Humphreys is one of the most humble men I know, seldom acknowledging his selfless dedication to his students, athletes and colleagues. He has a heart as big as his brilliant mind, but it is his integrity that I admire most. I have had the privilege of working with Mr. Humphreys for the past eight years in our Global Thought class, and through him I have learned what it means to be a good teacher. He has influenced my own teaching in more ways than he will ever know, and I consider it an absolute honor to have worked beside him. He has been my teacher, my confidant, my shoulder to cry on, my reality check, my lunch date, and my hero. North Andover will never be the same. I love you, Humps. - Meredith Tracey With his unconventional teaching techniques and passion for helping his students, Global Thought remains one of our most memorable classes. We all became mesmorized by his lessons. His eccentric personality always made us laugh. And by the end of the year we became fond of his esoteric nature. Humps, thank you so much for being the bright spot in our day. Love, Global Thought 2008 BARRY E. HUMPHREYS "Humpa" One of the most talented athlete-scholars N.
