Thorfast the Silent is a Norse raider. He battles alongside his companions, The Wolves, under Yngvar Hakonsson’s banner. While adventuring in the Mediterranean Thorfast fell victim to treachery, thrown into a slave ship bound for unknown lands. He alone survived the ship’s sinking, washing ashore in Sicily and into the hands of his enemies.
Having witnessed the drowning of his companions, he believes the gods have abandoned him to his foes.
Thorfast is gravely wounded. Yet he is not alone. Another slave, a woman called Sophia, has also survived. His life is owed to Sophia and her aid does not come without a price. He must deliver her home to take revenge against those who enslaved her.
Together they battle across Sicily with only rags and wits to preserve them. They face ceaseless danger, threading soldiers, bandits and the warring armies of Arabs and Byzantines. Can they escape the multitude of dangers to find a measure of safety and revenge?
