Hope you are enjoying your summer. Try keeping cool this summer since it's been pretty hot so far. Hopefully we'll get a stretch of nice days where we can enjoy being outside. A few things have happened through June. The month started with the Ladies Flea Market that went well. It was a great day to come up and shop. The weather was nice and the day went very well. Good job to Janet Landers for her work and to all members who helped get it together and worked to make it success- ful. A Flag Day service was held on Sunday June 11 which started at 2PM. The Boy Scouts presented the flags during the service. A light lunch was served following the service. The actual date is June 14, but Flag Day is celebrated on the second Sunday of the month. All members and the public are welcome to attend. A Father's Day breakfast was on Sunday, June 18 from 9-1. Father's were given a bottle of Dad's root beer or creme soda when they came in. It was nice to see many of the families come and have a nice breakfast with their fathers. Thanks to Terry Amiott and her cooking team for preparing the food for this breakfast along with Mother's Day and Easter. I hope all fathers had a nice Father's Day. Summer Lodge meetings for the months of July and August will meet 2 times each month. July meetings are the second and fourth Thursdays of the month starting at 7:30. All meetings are casual for July and August. This gives a little flexibility for summer plans and a break from weekly meetings. Regular weekly meetings will resume in September. The fish fries have been lightly attended this month. Some of this is a result of festivals, summer parties, and some weather we have been having this summer. Chicken tenders, planks, and butterfly shrimp have been added to the menu....Come and try these new items. Monday night bingo has been busier this month. The money from bingo helps pay for scholarships for High School seniors along with other charitable functions the lodge may have. Anyone wanting to volunteer some time on Mondays, let someone know. Jitneys start at 7 with regular bingo beginning at 8 pm. BINGO!! Kentucky mid-year convention is Aug 4-5 in Paducah, KY. Members are invited to attend this convention. Its a good way to make friends with Elks from around the state and see what other lodges do. They are glad to see new faces and are eager to make new friends. Learn about their experiences as Elks and they will an- swer any questions you may have. Have a great July 4th holiday. Enjoy the parades, fireworks, and celebrations. Stay safe. Our sympathy is extended to their family and friends. They may no longer be with us, but will live forever on our tablets of Love and Memory. We also sadly report the passing of two of our Newport Elks Family: Betty Lyons husband passed away, he was also Tracy’s Sebastian’s father. Virginia Sandfoss’s sister passed away. _________________________________________________________________________________________ Nancy Wilson has been taking radiation treatments for her Cancer 5 days a week for several weeks and is doing very well. She is now waiting for the next steps. Our prayers are going out to her. Terry Lawson had surgery to replace his defibulator and his pacemaker. He is home and is doing well. New member Dennis Schneider is now home recovering from a lengthy stay in the hospital. One of his horses fell on him coming out of the barn, causing major internal damage. Bob Ryan is doing as well as possible, he does not get out very much any more. Please remember to see me or call me if you know of anyone in our Elks family who is sick or in distress. Stay Cool. Russell Cramer Jr, PSP, Secretary, 859-441-3347 Panama Canal Cruise in 2018 We are again trying to organize a Cruise to the Panama Canal in Feb or March 2018. Kim Campbell is going to be the organizer. We will not have an exact cost until we supply the travel agency with the exact amount of people that sign up to definitely go. We will let you know when the cost is available from the agent, and it will also depend on what type of room you will want. Inside cabin, Cabin with window only or one with a balcony. We are hoping it will be around $1324-$2000 per person on Princess Cruise Lines, not counting airfare. More info will be coming out. If you are interested, please sign the sign up sheet on the bulletin board at the kitchen window, and Kim will gather the information and get it out to everyone. Thank You, Fran Bray 5 Secretary’s Corner We have our Lodge meetings every Thursday at 7:30 pm, except for the summer months of July and August, which is now. Then we meet twice a month. The July meetings are the 13th and the 27th, August Meetings are the 10th and 24th. The lodge is open on the Thursdays that we do not have a meeting. It would be really nice if you would attend a Lodge meeting. It is interesting, not long at all, and you can voice your opinion. And to top it off, we have something to eat after the meeting. We still have quite a few members who have not yet paid their dues for this 2017-2018 Lodge Year. If this is you……...Please please send in your dues or drop them off at the Lodge as soon as possible. We do not want to lose any or our Newport Elk Family members. We will print the names in next month’s News- letter. Hopefully it will be a very short list. The Kentucky Elks Mid-year convention is just around the corner, August 4th to the 6th at Paducah Elks Lodge #217. The new Grand Exalted Ruler will be there, as will our Sponsor, PGER Ted Hess, and the new Kentucky Elks State President Jim Dorris and First Lady Mary Kay. If you have an interest to attend, please see me for the registration information. Arnold We have collected 12 lbs. of pull tabs to recycle for Ronald McDonald House, this is the beginning of the new collection period , we are starting over now. Thanks to all who donate. Please help us collect the aluminum can tabs from your soft drink and beer cans by removing them from the top of your canned drink and placing them in the bowl on top of the blue recycling trash can. You can also hand them to our bartender, Kathy Hargett. If you are now giving them to someone else, could you please save them for Collection on Monday and Saturday at the Elks. (Since Janet passed away the tab collection has been way down. Please consider giving them to the Elks for Darrell Arnold, he is the collector now, and he comes 2x a week to pick them up. The Elks gets credit for bringing them in. Thanks—Fran) These little tabs are recycled and the money received for the aluminum helps subsidize the lodging costs for families of very sick children at the Ronald McDonald House. Thank you so much to everyone for contributing to this effort. Reminder: Driver’s License Renewal: Check your Driver’s License Renewal Date, Campbell County no longer sends out notices to renew.
