The subject of new technologies is very broad, and the content of this book presents a small selection of some of them. Its content is intended for the use of geoscientists and petroleum engineers interested in reading the recent advances of certain oil and gas technologies. Due to the large number of technologies available it was not possible to gather experts from all areas of technology. Therefore, a great amount of gratitude is given to the several oil and gas professionals, who kindly volunteered to share their valuable experiences and knowledge with all of us. This book covers HSE (Chapters 1-3) to IT and Modeling (Chapters 4-6), Reservoir Management (Chapters 7-8) and Core Analysis (Chapter 9). Of these, Chapter 7 contains material that would be too detailed and advanced for some of the readers. Chapter 8 rounds off the book with a summary of the role of geosciences and engineering in field development. The chapters do not have to be read in numerical order and can be used individually. The further technologies missing from this book must be acknowledged for further reference: Drilling Technologies, Reservoir Simulation, EOR, SCAL, PVT, Flow Assurance, Geomechanics, i-Field etc. but, we leave these for the second edition of the book. I thank these authors on behalf of our industry for participating in this project and for allowing us to share the knowledge of research that is prevalent in furthering our understanding of a subject matter that is so close to us. I also hope that the release of this book will inspire others to work with us to release the second edition encompassing the remaining topics mentioned above. I also want to thank Ms. Tanja Skorupan, InTech Publishing Process Manager, for her valuable support with the logistics, and for keeping me posted on the progress and time schedule of the book. If there are errors in this book, please forgive me, it is because I failed to detect and correct them.
