Introduction ThegenusChlnob1・iumGREsslTT,1937isasmallgroupofthetribeObriiniand composedofthreeknownspecies.Itisapeculiargroupamongthetribeinhavingsuch apeculiarhabitus intermediatebetweenLonglpalpusandStenhomalusasthewidely separatedeyes,theelongatepalpiandantennalscape,theslenderbutlaterallyswollen pronotumwithoutrecumbentpubescence,andtheampleelytra. TwospecimensofChinobriumwascollected fromnorthernThailandby Messrs. MinoruTAOandManabu KAMIMURA, respectively,andbrought tomy handthrough their courtesy. It wasavery interestingdiscovery for the faunaofThailand,sinceno representativeofthegenushassofarbeenknownfromthecountry.A量oracarefulex- amination, it was revealed that thespecimens inquestionbelong to two different species,ofwhichCmediofatsclatun1GREssITT,1937previouslyknown fromSoutheast China,andC.opacum(HoLzscHUH,1984)alsoknownfromtheneighboringcountries inIndochina.Inthefollowinglines,IwillnewlyrecordthemfromThailan andaddi- tionallydescribethediagnosticcharactersofthegenusbasedonthetwospecies. Iwishtodedicatethispaper tothelateDr. MichioCHUJ0whowasoneof the greatestcoleoptero1ogistsbeforeandafter theWorldWar11. I couldnothavecontin- uedmystudyoftheSoutheastAsiancerambycidfaunawithouthisactivity. GenusChinobriulltGREssITT,1937 Chlt1ob1・iutnGREsslTT,1937,LingnanSci.J.,16、p 449;1951,Longicornia,2,pp.161,166;typespecies Cmodi(:fasclat11t11GREssITT,1937. - HoLzscHUH,1990.Ber.Nat.-med.Ver.Innsbruck,77,p.187 Basically similar to Longlpalpus in thestructures ofmouthparts, theventer of thoraces,andalsothevenationofhindwings,butdiscriminatedfromthelatter inthe broadandconvexbodyingeneral, theprominentsidesandunevendiscofpronotum, NewRecordofCill,10/),・111,;1fromThailand 115 lightlysclerotizedapicalthreeabdominalventrites,andsoon. Body broad,slightlyconvex,withrather longappendages, dull on integument; pubescencedensethoughshortandverythin,usuallyvelvetyonforebodyandventer. Headlongandslightly declivous,depressedabove,withmediangroovefinein frontanddeeperposteriad; fronsslightlywider thanlong, fronto-clypea1suturearcuate anddeep;clypeusnot raised,withtransverseapicalmargin;mandiblerelatively long andslender, witharcuateandacutely toothedapical part, densely setosealong inner margin;maxillawithgalealongpedunculate-forme lacinianotsodevelopedandal- mosttriangular,truncateoninnermargin;palpusslenderandvery long,especially in terminalsegment; labiumwithmentumtransverse, ligulaofY-shapedquadratelobes, palpuslong;eyesmoderatelyprominent, rather finely facete widelyseparatedabove andbelow,withupper lobenotattainingtoalevelofinnermarginofantennalcavity. Antennaelong,exceedingelytralapicesevenin female,providedwithaverysparse rowofhairsalongundersidesofsegments1-5or6;scapeelongateandweaklyclavate, nearlyequal inlength tosegments2and3combined,segment3alittlelonger than segment4,segment5thelongestandslightlylongerthanscape. Pronotummoderateinlengthandwidth,slightlydivergent toapex,widestnear middle,distinctlyswollenatalevelbetweenanteriorandposteriorconstrictions;disc convexinapicalhalfandthendeclivoustobasal fourthwhichisweaklyraise basi- callyprovidedwithtwopairsofweakswellingsatsides.Scutellumnarrow,rounded apicad. Elytradistinctlybroaderthanthebasalwidthofpronotum;sideswithrounded humeri,arcuatelydivergent tonearapical fourth,completely roundedatapices;disc almost flattenecしwith costaeextending fromhumeri toapical thirdorso,strongly puncturedat least inbasal 3/4.Hindwing lightlysclerotized,withsimplePcand IA3十2AwhichagreewellwiththoseofLo11glpalpus. prosternumwithintercoxa1processstronglycompressednearmiddle,apicalpart stronglydilated; forecoxalcavitiesroundedexternally,completelyclosedbehinddue toinnerextensionsofpleuralprocesses.Mesosternumwitharcuatetransversedepres- sionatapical2/5,stronglyraisedposteriad,withmesosternalprocessbroadandtrian- gularlyconcaveatapex,midcoxalcavitiesalmostclosedexternally. Metasternum not convex,rathernarrow,slightlydilatedposteriad. Abdomenjn femalebroad,stronglyabbreviated,with1stventritenearlytwiceas longasthe followingscombined,apical threelightlysclerotized,analslightlyemar- ginateatmargin. Legslong,withmoderatelyclavatefemoraandshorttarsi. Range. Himalaya,SE.China,IndochinaandSriLanka. Notes. It isnodoubt thatChinobriumhasacloserelationshiptoLonglpalpus, sjncethetwogenerashareseveralbasicstructures,asfollows:headlongandslightly declivous,withwidelyseparatedeyes;prosternumwithintercoxa1processcompressed nearmiddleanddistinctly dilatedapicad; hindwingwithsimplePcand tA3十2A vejns;mesosternumwith transverseconcavitybeforecoxalcavities;metasternumna「一 116 TatsuvaN11sATo row.ChinobriummayberegardedasasubgroupofLonglpalpus, thoughit ishardly discriminatedfromthelatterbythebroadandconvexbody,thedistinctlyswollensides ofpronotumandthemembranoussegmentsofthefemaleabdomen.Longlpalpushasa slenderandflattenedbody,anelongatepronotumwithslightlyarcuatesidesandwell sclerotizedbasalthreeventrites. IwasunabletoexaminethemaleofChinobriumsince all thepreviousrecordsofthegenuswerebasedon femalespecimens.Itisexpected thatkeycharactersclearlyseparablethetwogenerawillbefoundontheirmalegenital organwhenthemaleChinobriumisfoundinnear future. ThegenusChlnobriumiscomposedofthreeknownspecies,viz.,Cmed可ascia- tum GREssITT (type species!) from Southeast China and Thailand, C opacum (HoLzscHUH) fromtheHimalayasandIndochina,andCvesculum(HoLzscHUH,1986) fromSri Lanka.Accordingtotheoriginaldescription, thelastspeciesseemstobea rather isolatedmember of thegenusbecauseof itsslightlysmaller body (5mm in length),withtheuniquecrossdarkmaculationontheposteriorpartsofelytra. TheecologicaldataofChinobriumarealmostunknownsincetheadultsaresel- dom foundinthefield. Ihavepreviouslyexaminedonlyfiveexamplesbelongingto twospeciesofthegenuswhichwerecollectedonlivingtreesinthedaytimeandthe deadwoodinthenighttime. Head includingeyesslightlywiderthan themaximumwidthofpronotum, de- pressedabove,shagreenedthoughprovidedwithafewpuncturesatocciput; frons2/3 the length ofbasal width, witha finemediangroove though thegroovebecomes deeperatvertex;eyesseparatedaboveby3/5thewidthofocciput.Antennaeslender andmuchlonger,exceedingelytra1apicesatmiddleofsegment8;scapemoderately 118 TatsuvaNIIsATo clavateandlonger thansegments2and3combined,alittleshorter thanthelongest segment4,terminalsegmentslightlyarcuate. Pronotumrelativelyslender, 1.3 times as longasthemaximumwidth,alittle wideratapexthanatbase;sidesraisedbehindapex,stronglyconstrictedatapical2/9, arcuatelydilatedtojustbeforemiddlewhichisthewidest,thenarcuatelynarrowedto basal 2/9 which is constricte weaklyarcuatetobasalangles;discdistinctlyconvex towardscentralhighestpart,withtwopairsofroundedweakswellingsatapicaland basal5/12,withweaklyraisedbasal collar,shortmedianridgesnear apexandbase, shagreene withafewpuncturesondorsum.Scutellumelongatetongue-shaped. Elytramoderatelylong,2.6timesaslongasthehumeralwidth,3.0timesaslong as pronotum;sideswith roundedhumeri, largelyarcuately emarginatenearmiddle, moderatelyamplenearapical fourthwhichisthewidest,completelyroundedatapices; disc almost flattene arcuately raisedaroundsuturebehindscutellum,stronglypunc- turedinbasal 7/10, thenfinelysoandonlyshagreened inapical fifth,withdistinct costaeextendingfromhumeritomiddleofapical2/5. Ventralsurfacefinelyshagreenedthroughout;prosternuminapical2/5shinyand providedwithstrongtransversefurrows,withapicalpartofpresternalprocessconcave ondorsum.
