Medinilhiscipoi-rivereusisisdistinguishedbyitselongateleavesandqua- drangular-alatebranchlets.Othersalientcharactersarethelax,pendulous inHorescenceswithvcrticellatebranching. Innovationsaresetoseatolder nodesandonlycaducouslyplumuloseintheapicaltufts. MedimlUisapoi-riveremhkeysto/\l,icancciMansfeld(Mansfeld1925)but Takeuchi,NewplantsfromPapuasia 1077 thelatterspecieshasaterminalinflorescence.Thereisalsoanapparentaffinity toM. mansfeldianaJVlerrill &Perry,andAl. schlechteriMansfeld. Thenew- speciesdiffersfromM.niamfeldianabythenatureanddensityoftheindtimentum, lengthoftheinflorescence,andsizeofthebracts.FromM.schlechteri,itdiffers inhavingclearlypetiolateleaves,smallerbracts,andesetosecalyces.
