As you know, the Research Facility has undergone changes including the increase in total building from 170,000 gsf (6 floors) to approximately 325,000 gsf (12-floors) within the same site on the New England Deaconess Hospital campus. The Research Facility is a critical component ofthe Hospital's Facilities Master Plan. The principal objective of the project continues to be the consolidation of all the campus research including those functions currently located in the Cancer Research Building on Pilgrim Road,which structurally is no longer suited for housingresearch activities. The new Research Facility project will provide additional benefits to the City by the addition of 185 permanent jobs over a period of several years and approximately 300 NEDH constructionjobs over a 1-1/2 to 2 year period. has a long-term relationship with the City and with the immediate neighborhoods it abuts, and has played not only a leadership role in providing medical care forwomen and menwith AIDS, but has provided substantial funds for AIDS and other critical health care programs in the City of Boston and Metropolitan area. The new development schedule for this project calls for construction to begin in late 1994 with completionwithin 18 to 24 months.
