He has taught anthropology at Capetown, Northwestern, and New York uni- versities, and at present he is professor of African anthropology at the School of Anthropology and African Studies, University of London. He has done field research in Uganda, Zanzibar, and Nigeria. He is the author of Black Africa and Lugbara of Uganda, and, with David Tait, he edited Tribes without Rulers. Dr. Middleton also edited four other volumes of the Texas Press Sourcebooks in Anthropology series: Comparative Political Systems, with Ronald Cohen; Gods and Rituals; Magic, Witchcraft, and Cur- ing; and From Child to Adult. Texas Press Sourcebooks in Anthropology were originally published by the Natural History Press, a divi- sion of Doubleday and Company, Inc. Responsibility for the series now resides with the University of Texas Press, Box 7819, Austin, Texas 78712. Whereas the series has been a joint effort between the American Museum of Natural History and the Natural History Press, future volumes in the series will be selected through the auspices of the editorial offices of the University of Texas Press. The purpose of the series will remain unchanged in its effort to make available inexpensive, up-to-date, and authoritative volumes for the student and the general reader in the field of anthropology.
