Digitized by the Internet Archive in 2022 with funding from Kahle/Austin Foundation https://archive.org/details/mylifeoflovetrutO000barr BARRY LONG, born an ordinary man, raised in country towns in New South Wales and without much education, became an inspiration to thousands of men and women and recognised around the world as one of the foremost spiritual masters of the 20" century. Coming from no religious tradition or school, he had no credentials to offer — other than the truth he spoke. Yet what he said had the power to change lives. How does such power and authority arise? The clues are in this spiritual autobiography, describing a life lived in the fullness of the spirit; a life of love and truth. This is his own extraordinary story, told in detail for the first time and now published posthumously. Wo The story begins with his early career as a journalist. He becomes the youngest editor of a Sydney Sunday paper, The Truth Cater the Sunday Mirror). But the daily reflection of the spirit supplants all ambition and he leaves that world for the real truth, which beckons him to India. There, after travelling across the subcontinent in a van, he finds himself alone in the foothills of the Himalayas and passes through a mystic death, his realisation of immortality. The story continues in London where he meets the woman who takes a central role in the unfolding drama. Their life together produces pro- found spiritual realisations and the biography then reaches out beyond normal experience to encounters with powers from deep inner space. We see a master being made. But before he can enter the world stage there are severe tests to be undergone, culminating in the death of his beloved. Packed with incident, acutely observed and honestly told, this is not just the story of one life but a revelation of the way destiny works when the life is guided by truth. He occasionally spoke in public about his life but generally only to demonstrate a point in his spiritual teaching. He was not concerned with drawing attention to himself or his story if that would detract from his message, which is essentially that divine truth and love reside in a direct experience accessible to every one of us in our own lives now. As long as he lived, he was living proof of his own teachings; he lived what he taught. In death he leaves us an account of his life which puts his other published works in that living context. It is a testament to the extraordinary way God, truth and love worked in Barry Long; and by his example we are inspired to look to the underlying purpose of our own lives. This book is Barry Long’s story up to 1982 and describes the making of a spiritual master. It is an honest account and for the most part names and facts have not been concealed or changed. Where Barry Long makes use of writings by other people, permission to quote them has been sought and given. Letters have had customary pleasantries and personal details removed. Barry Long’s autobiography survives him as proof and a reminder that the authentic spiritual or divine life is original and informed by a living power of which we are normally unaware. As this is not a normal life, some aspects of the story may offend expectations or appear incredible. To get the most from the book, please read it with a still mind.
