The Class of 2010 has set sail for distant harbors. That fact brings great joy as we all celebrate the culmination of the hard work by the members of the class and the faculty and staff, but it also brings some sadness as this completes your time in training here in Buzzards Bay - your "home" during this important part of your development. Unfortunately, you must leave your shipmates and mentors behind. A ship in the harbor is safe but of course that is not why ships were made. am very proud of each one of you in the class. Some years ago you made a I very difficult decision to buck peer pressure and chose the road less traveled. That took true courage. During the intervening years you have experienced times of excitement as you made new friends, learned new skills and saw new places. There were also tough times, however, when you had to summon your courage on Sunday evenings and leave the safety of your home to return to the demanding crush of "five years of college jammed into four". You routinely waved goodbye to family and friends from the decks of ships, the windows of cars or the doors of airports. Saying goodbye never became routine. It always hurt a bit. During these past years you have grown tougher, more confident, better prepared. You have stood taller as you mastered the skills of your trade and the wisdom gained from experience. am particularly pleased to be able to witness your successful completion of I the rigorous undergraduate curriculum and, for the cadets in the class, the very difficult regimental leadership program. After weathering the storms and steering past the rocks and shoals at one of the most difficult college choices in the nation, you have sailed into the harbor of your dreams. Waving goodbye to you will hurt a bit, but am proud of what you have I become and wish for you the very best on your new voyages.
