I have also been involved with orthopaedists from the start, and in fact while I was at the Peter Bent Brigham, Clem Sledge had me elected to the American AssociationofOrthopaedicSurgeons—atthattimeoneofonlyfourradiologiststobea member of that prestigious organization. Thus, I have an extensive knowledge of orthopaedic devices and their history over the past 35 years—hence the chapter on orthopedic hardware. In my present department, we perform over 100 bone and soft tissuebiopsieseveryyearaswellasmanyarthrogramsusuallypriortoMRIsandjoint aspirations, some of which are performed under ultrasound guidance. The intended audience for this book includes radiologists and radiological residents, orthopaedists and orthopaedic residents, physical medicine physicians and physiatrists and their residents, as well as osteopathic doctors and their residents. Chiropractors who want an up-to-date and comprehensive MSK text should also be interested in reading this book. I would particularly like to thank the production team at Informa Healthcare, both Joseph Stubenrauch and Naman Mahisauria, who were very considerate and helpful. Finally, I would like to convey my special thanks to Jim Perin, M.D., Lori Deitte, M.D., and Clemmer Wait, M.S. for the extraordinary help in completing this publication.
