This wasone of the regular conferences of the International Society on Multiple Criteria Decision Making, which are held at approximately two-year intervals. The Ankaraconference had 195participants from 38countries. Atotal of 185papers werepresented attheconference. The titleofour volumeisMCDM intheNewMillennium. The papers presented at the conference reflect the theme. We had several papers on information technology (IT) and many application papers. Of the 81 application papers presented, 14appear inthe volume. Weexpect more ITapplications of MCDM to appear inthefuture, inparticular intheareasofe-commerceandtheinternet. The conference surroundings andaccomodations wereexcellent, andconducive to both an outstanding academic exchange, and enjoyment and a cultural broadening of participants. We had a pleasant and enjoyable outing and visit to the Anatolian Civilizations Museum. We also had an outstanding banquet at which awards were presented. The MCDM Gold Medal was presented to ProfessorThomas Saaty, oftheUniversityofPittsburgh. The MCDM Presidential Service Award waspresented toProfessorPekka Korhonen oftheHelsinki School of Economics for his years of presidential service to the society. The society presented the MCDM Edgeworth-Pareto Award to Professor Alexander V.Lotov of the Russian Academy of Sciences. It also presented the George Cantor Award to Philippe Vincke of the Universite Libre de Bruxelles. The society presented The MCDM Conference Chairmanship Award to Murat Koksalan of the Middle East Technical University. The society's new president, Valerie Belton of StrathclydeUniversity tookoffice atthemeeting. We would like to thank the administrators of the Middle East Technical University (METU) who have been very supportive and generous in making available university resources. Members oftheIndustrial EngineeringDepartment worked diligently inthe organization of the conference to make it a success.
