Of special importance are the technologies and applications which help to increase the privacy of citizens and to protect sensitive data. The conference continues to present research and development activities contributing to theo- retical and experimental aspects of the considered domain. The following areas were of main interest at MCSS 2012: – Privacy and data protection using digital watermarkingand other technologies – Object and threat detection – Data protection and distribution – Human—centric multimedia analysis and synthesis – Cybercrime—threats detection and counteracting Similarlytothepreviouseditionsoftheconference,oralsessionswereaccom- panied by demonstration and poster sessions. Demonstration sessions at MCSS are a very good opportunity to present and discuss the outcomes and solutions ofthe performedresearchandto experienceinpracticethe emergingimplemen- tations and researchprototypes. The conference was again an occasion for the exchange of knowledge among specialists involved in multimedia and security research.
