Passage ofa newsix-yeartransportation
fundingbill byCongress heralds a new era of
challenges and opportunitiesforMontana. As
one ofthe mostrural states in the nation, and
onewith an economyhighlydependenton
transportation, the importance ofTEA-21
would be difficultto overstate.
MDTand Montana's Congressional
Delegation played a central role inTEA-21
legislation. Ourstatewill seea substantial
increase in fundingas a result. And with
cooperation and more hard work, we can
build thetransportation system we needfor
the nextcentury. And do itwithouttax
increases.
The information in this handbook is
intended to answer your questions, and
to provide an outline ofthe program
government and private business will
worktogetherto implement. We welcome

Montana has 14 state owned airports, 125 public
use airports, and over 350 private useairports.
