I would recommend not taking it more than a mile from shore. It was designed to sail in canals, ponds, marinas, and places too small to sail normally. As for mine, She's a total marina queen. The most fun is to be had sailing around crowded areas where it gets a lot of attention, such as in a big marina. My design differed from the British Minuet quite a bit. The production Minuet is 7.2 feet long, mine is 8 feet long. I believe that the production minuet was wider and a little flatter than mine. The sides of the production minuet seem to angle out a lot more than mine does. The sides of the hull are nearly vertical on my boat. The production boat has a stayed rig, mine is unstayed. The production minuet has 30 lbs of weight in the bottom of the daggerboard. Mine has 50 lbs of lead at the bottom. The production boat has the daggerboard and mast in the middle, mine is asymetric. The keel is on the right, and the mast is on the left of center. I have gone through two rigs, the short gaff rig, and the tall flat top rig. Both use a round mast with no track. I am making a lighter mast with a track in the future. My first mast was 87 inches from the keel to the top of the mast. My second mast is 12 feet from the keel to the top of the mast. Also, if you look through the footage and pictures, you'll notice quite a few changes from one day to another. The mast and rig switches, the decks get extra fiberglass and are painted black, a bowsprit is added, the rudder is switched to a smaller wooden rudder, a large spray cover is put over the whole back end, etc. As for capsize and knockdown, I've done static knockdown tests in the marina. I put the keel all the way down, and hold the mast down to the water with nobody in the boat. When you let go, the mast goes vertical within 1 second. With nobody inside, it sits high enough no water gets inside. I've also had a friend hold the mast down with me inside. They can get the top of the mast to within 2 feet of the water, before the water gets to the edge of the rear window where it would start running in. Again, it goes fully vertical within 1 second. Both tests were performed with the 12 foot steel mast and the watertight rear cover behind the cabin. files owners note : please make your boat full closed , extremelly watertight and loaded with foam. use thick fiberglass , use 4 kilograms of glass fiber and 6 liters of polyester per square meter or more and more. buy a sun water maker or build a drinking water maker out of plastic dome and copying the existing sun water makers. carry 700 grams of food and 1 liters of water per day. you can cross the entire europe with waterways or shores. Be careful for hemoroid and dont allow to your ass touch the hard surface. Carry least two masts and two sets of sail with you. Increase the weight of the keel , if you can make a bulb keel. carry talk powder and medical set with you. dont forget toilet paper. if you can buy a survivor 06 hand pumped water maker and use it every day , dont allow to foil bactery itself. please note , this is uglier boat than the original minuet boat and be make it watertight , and try it full loaded with a person about its capsize proofability. protect your head about impacts and protect your hands. use very strong mast and mast joint. dont allow to mast break your boat.
